It was COLD. And the ICE later came on when I increased the Temp Control.

    Your situation above is expected.

that's odd, maybe we don't have it figured out.:) keep us posted on whether your ice keeps coming on for no reason you can think of.

That was going to work. On the way home, I didn't have the HVAC on at all and the ICE came on twice. The first time was while sitting at a light, the second when I stopped at a stop sign. The temp outside was around 47 then.

I'm pretty sure it was still there because I hit the Off button when I powered it off and left it off for the ride home.

not sure what you mean by that. pretty sure it was still set to 'low'? off button only shuts off the fan, not the temp.

I don't remember changing it from Lo when I shut it off. I can't check now because the girlfriend was in the car and she changes all my settings.

keep us informed. i can't think of any other reason you're ice would keep starting like that.

    This is not true.

    As dan said:
As per the manual...the ICE may start when the hybrid system is too cold. To avoid this action it helps to have car finish charging just before you drive.

I have had this happen when it was 22F and I didn't charge before leaving and the ICE stared in about 1/4 mile. Other time when I had the charging finish right before leaving the ICE didn't kick on.

Also, there is a custom setting to use AUTO without it using the ac compressor. This may work as a simple on/off switch. I haven't tried it yet so...

of course it started if you didn't plug in, how else would it go? as for your first statement, el dobro said it started when it was 47 degrees out. that is not too cold.

  13. Thanks, that seems to work. Discovered something else, once the inverter kicks in and you have the overhead lights on, the lighting is much brighter. I have always used the overheads in Acc mode. All because I turned the car " ON " !

makes sense, they don't want you running down the battery. note that in ON the car will automatically shut off very quickly (60 seconds?), while in ACC mode it will stay on longer.

Everybody knows this is OCD right? Life is simpler if you just set the controls to comfortable settings and forget about it. We are talking real small ball here. But fun, and we are learning how things work.

After you Press the Power button to start the PIP, you have 10 seconds to turn on the Fan, check the Temp Control, and lower it to LO. After 10 seconds the PIP will check and decide if the ICE should start or not.

I tried it quite a few times and think I got it correct.

I noticed something else odd... I had the fan on with the temp set to 80+ degrees for a short drive early in the morning, then later in the day I was driving with the fan turned off and I noticed that the air started to get very warm once I got on the freeway and the engine started. It seems like the temperature control affects the outside air blowing in through the vents with the fan off, but in order to adjust it, I needed to turn the fan on, lower the temperature, then turn the fans back off. I sure wish the temperature could be adjusted without turning on the fan, but I'm guessing that this is not something that can be "fixed" with a firmware update.

Probably another topic--but is there any consensus on what is the fastest you can go in level EV. I was surprised to see that I was still in EV this morning going exactly 65 on level freeway for about a mile. I had though that there was a speed link automatic switch at 62. Must be rate of drain that triggers the ICE. Has anyone recorded going faster than 65 in EV (not downhill!).

This is normal, every car I have owned (all had manual knobs) behaved the same way. That said, having to turn the fan on just to change the temp because it was cold in the morning, but warmer during the day, is REALLY annoying :/
