Re-enforce with bolts. They're rated for 500 years if you use the right ones.

They're going to throw a giga-buck at this problem, at least!
    If nothing else?
That will inspire solutions that are pleasing to the engineer and those looking up at the "forest" as well.

Talent goes where the money is.

Perhaps that's why some call it fake news. ;)
They always announce the cause of things before they determine the cause.
Examples exist here, but you would have to lift the lid to the forum's toilet (political sub-forum) to see some here in the US....and TRUST ME some lids are better kept tightly closed!!

They made a law in France in the 1870's that prohibits the French Republic from conducting a census by making any official distinction between its citizens in terms of race or religious beliefs, so French demographics can be a bit hard to ACCURATELY determine....which is why you make such laws, I suppose.
HOWEVER (comma!) there are....ah....."reasons" that they would initially lean away from tagging a fire as being intentionally set....which at this point I believe, since terror events do not work as well when one does them secretly. ;)
You ALSO have a bunch of folks running around in France with the Mouvement des gilets jaunes (Yellow Vests) that have people a little jumpy.
The French have a pretty good incentive to put their thumbs on the scales fairly early-on especially since we will NEVER KNOW for sure what actually happened other than.....a fire got started, and only morons have big expensive churches in 2020 without spending adequate money on fire detection and suppression.

I must have been watching the wrong fake news that day, which proffered only speculation, not a definitive declaration.

Oh, that's hardly necessary. See: all the threads where half a dozen people will jump in and tell the OP what their car problem is before any codes have been read.

Toilet metaphor@62. In a broader view we'd think about ~2 billions globally lacking such sanitary devices. But even in this narrow view, if it keeps the poop contained, it serves a purpose.

And...a noble and necessary purpose that is!!

The French should think about tearing down the rest of the building, putting up a plaque, and spending the repair fund on fire safety for their PEOPLE and perhaps food assistance.

...a house of worship, or worshiping a house?

Those others are good ideas. Not being a poor country, France surely could do them.

But "Our Lady" is a heckuva tourism magnet. Grand Gothic architecture is a finite and dwindling resource. No one seems to be considering doing new stonework with buttresses and vaults.

The big lead pour envisioned by Quasimodo finally happened, and (no surprise) local soil and water contamination is tres mal. So, do your geophagy somewhere else :)

When Eiffel built his monument, a lot of locals thought it was a terrible idea. Seems to have turned out OK.
