Did my editing attempt over in FHoPol cause this latest crash? It was on the last reply before the crash. I'd trying numerous times to post a particular reply, but it would not post or preview. But others succeeded. Eventually I determined it was the news links causing interfence, snipping them made it post successfully. On re-editing, one link was inserted successfully. But the other link, to NPR, wasn't being accepted, then the whole site crashed for several hours. PS: I can still modify that post, but attempts to put in the NPR link still fail.
Internal links to some threads are broken, but likely from a previous migration. They can still be fixed though. Sometime previously, links to threads were in the format: priuschat.com/forums/{sanitized forum name}/{thread number}-{sanitized title}.html eg. priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-care-maintenance-troubleshooting/87318-cause-lower-glove-box-rattle-revealed.html Those links don't work anymore, but you can still get to the original thread by reformatting the URL as: priuschat.com/threads/{sanitized title}.{thread number} eg. priuschat.com/threads/cause-of-lower-glove-box-rattle-revealed.87318 Encountered the issue while while going though the following thread: https://priuschat.com/threads/fix-2010-2011-prius-rattles-for-99-cents-neat-version.96791 A fix could be to crawl the site and automatically fix the old links, or somehow catch old links as they are clicked and redirect them to the appropriate threads.
BTW, I did try links to pictures on a Google drive. That did work out nicely--better than expected--thanks!. I will try the disabling Javascript method next time. will
Last night I was trying to find a Google Chrome extension that makes it super easy to turn off java script on certain websites, but got distracted while looking. And yes I know I can go into settings and turn Java Script off for the browser entirely, but I only want to turn it off for this website when I need to post a photo. Any suggestions on the easiest way to do that?
In Chrome, I followed javascript disabling instructions outlined here: How to Disable (and Enable) JavaScript in Google Chrome Specifically: 1. entered: Chrome://settings/content/javascript in address field 2. then here: Customized behaviors Sites listed below follow a custom setting instead of the default Not allowed to use JavaScript specified: http://www.priuschat.com I then closed and reopened Chrome, and tried to post an image. No change. More to it??
I'm using the Firefox version of Disable Javascript. This adds a small toggle to the add-ons menu which lets you enable and disable Javascript at will. The Chrome extension can be found here.
I just switched off javascript to see what all the hubbub is about posting images. Man what a difference. I don't have the QUOTE button, so I used the REPLY button instead. Using the reply button I can see the add file text but no way to grab a local file, unless there is some trick to keying in a URI or somtin else. I'm writing a straight reply to this thread and the option to Upload a File is right next to the Post Reply lets see if I can get it to post a pic. Man, that's a lot of work just to show a silly shot of a dad's power tool battery powered kids car, speeding off faster than dad can catch up.
Thanks that extension seems to work if I want to Upload Attachment directly to a post, but it does not work when trying to Add Media to an Album. Without JavaScript it is missing all the upload buttons.
What was the error message? and which option under Personal Details were you trying to charge? and do you have javascript turned on of off, or does it happen no matter if javascript is on or off? With javascript on I just added another to my follow list under Personal Details.
I have tried disabling JavaScript, apparently without success. In Personal Details it was “custom title” I was trying to change (god knows why…). Got this (and again, just now): ^ and of course the usual shenanigans involved in posting an image.
I use 4 different browsers, chrome and firefox have different methods to disable javascript and different version of both can change the buttons or menu items you have to find to get into the advanced settings to switch off javascript. If you're using macs safari I'll be it's even more difficult to find the setting to switch it off. And even after switching it off, remembering how to find the setting again to switch it back on can be another web search for directions. I've never seen that exact error screen, but that really doesn't mean anything, I have seen a different looking 404 not found screen a few times during the migration. Not sure if this might help, could try clearing your browser cache and cookies. I do that regularly and if there is a setting in the browser to delete all cookies when the browser is closed, I switch that ON (religiously) .
Yeah I found JavaScript disable instruction, for Google Chrome (on Windows 10 pc) gamely tried. Maybe mercifully, nothing happened. Rankles too, to hamstring browser, for one damn site.
Yep javascripts on web sites are almost ubiquitous these days. To post a pic here with javascript disabled, it takes like 5 extra steps for me and a another open page view with practically nothing else on the page except the post pic button.
Just remembered, you might want to check your chrome version. Especially if you've ever gotten the update browser notification. I think the current chrome stable release number is 120. The instructions you found.for windows 10 might have been for chrome 90 or even earlier. And all that stuff keeps changing and getting rearranged. And there's Plenty of that happening this week with the OS version I'm running.
