A 404 Not Found is generally telling you about something that isn't present on the server. In the case of the JavaScript image upload, the thing that isn't there is a file on the server called Code: https://priuschat.com/attachments/do-upload.json . I posted that in #67 and Danny in #70 was hopeful that the people helping him with the setup would know what to do about that ... seems to me it would be something simple, that file didn't get installed for some reason, or is part of a XenForo extension that didn't get activated on the new server, something like that. I'm surprised it's taken this long to get sorted. ... and even with the 5 extra steps it's probably all faster than with JavaScript turned on.
possibly after getting used to the bare bones UI with javascript disabled. But definitely not the first time while trying to memorize the steps involved and notice which options are not available like choice of thumbnail or full size and probably other stuff I don't really remember to well. Plus, I haven't looked into page source since comparing my built by hand code to the way builder apps would construct the final published code. I used to love the way publishers used to add identifier strings almost every 10 lines of meaningful code. I don't envy you at all digging into the current crop of html, whatever it is called these days.
Attachment upload error after server migration | XenForo community [HOWTO] XenForo attachments via Amazon S3 and CloudFront | XFROCKS
I can't upload photos either. I tried Safari 17.2.1 and Chrome 120.0.6099.199 on macOS Sonoma 14.2.1. Neither worked. In Safari, I also tried creating a media album, but that didn't help.
Turn JavaScript off and reload the page. Now there is an Upload a File button that does nothing fancy, just opens another tab where you can upload a file. After uploading, there will be a link to it there; you can use Copy Link and go back to your original tab and paste the link into your post. The JavaScript version of uploading won't work. It isn't the fault of your browser; something isn't set up right for it on the server.
That works, sort of. If I try to edit a message, it will allow me to upload, but the picture doesn't seem to go into that message. I had to start a new message with the picture. Or maybe I'm just doing it wrong.
I'm also unable to add a photo. I even resized it down to 63kb and biggest dimension is 665px. I'm using an Android and. Chrome browser.
I use a Chrome/Brave extension called "JavaScript Toggle On and Off" (ver 0.3.4) ... a simple click on-click off on my button bar
Got it installed, and pinned on the toolbar. Could I then somehow paste a clipboard image in the text field, or upload? When I choose upload a file a new tab pops up. Not sure what to do...
Nothing. We haven’t been able to load images since the migration. Danny said he hired an expert to look into it. No idea what came of that.
I've been loading images since the migration. I've just been doing it with JavaScript off. I also posted (#67) what seemed like it ought to be enough info for Danny's expert to have tracked down the issue.
It gets easier after a few uploads, but that first time is a doozie, isn't it? Oh yeah, if you don't want to install a chrome extension you can enter this url and bookmark it chrome://settings/content/javascript And the is the chrome browsers native setting to switch javascript on and or off. Other browsers should also have a different (setting) url that can be bookmarked to change their javascript on off thingy. Only takes a search using your browser name and version ( adding turn off javascript ). It's not that easy to find while looking through all the chrome browser settings. Not that I have much of a clue what's going on with the pictures thing and how that behaves on the new sever(s), but I do remember danny posting about how they are organized and it being different somehow that it was on the old server. It's not a big deal for me, I have plenty of computer problems of my own without worrying about being able to upload pics and having them stay where they're supposed to be, Much less getting all the old pics back to where they used to be.
@Danny Thank You so much for providing this service to us and above all for deciding to keep it your personal project. I can only imagine what this site might turn into if you had decided to sell the forum to one of the conglomerates gobbling up forums left and right these days. Remembering the great time I had at 2GoB4 2014 and meeting you and so many of the other priuschat family that attended, many that I'm certain now own a Tesla or two.
