The NYC Taxi and Limo Commission sounds communist.

At their core, all laws have to be rationally related to the legitimate objective they seek to achieve. Now ... since there doesn't seem to be any legitimate objective that such a law (or rule or regulation) could possibly accomplish, I'd say don't worry. When it goes to court, the regulation will be tossed out faster then yesterday's sour milk.

The RX series and the HH are being marketed more for their 0-60 times rather than FE. What both Toyota and Lexus needs is a Venza hybrid for Toyota and an RX250 (Venza) for Lexus.

Being to powerful is just another way of saying gas-guzzling gas hog, which is EXACTLY what the RX450h is, as is also the HH. Even worse in the case of the OUT-SIZED over weight HH.

Like I said, no rational basis. They'd do best to get rid of the crown vic's.

So, the NYC taxi commission is going with a fleet of 100hp Aveos then?

I'd like to see their case for the Prius v. It has taxi written all over it - tons of cargo space, tons of rear legroom and hopefully a reasonable starting price.

I loved my 2009 Venza. I would get another one if they were hybrid. How about a hybrid Avalon as a cab... I would get one of those, too.

Given the performance of the Hybrid Camry, I doubt a Hybrid Avalon would have much appeal.

One may be better off with a Hybrid Sonata, except for trunk space.

That will & is happening. Vehicles are pulled out of service (not licensed) at least based on age (not sure about mileage).

Not to side track this thing but what is a Lexus HH?

Does Ben Bailey have to scrap his Sienna because that could be to powerful or overmodified?

I figured it out I think is it Highlander Hybrid? All of the abbreviations and forum acronyms keep me searching things often.

On the other hand, considering the probable ease with which the Camry HSD could be transplanted into the Avalon, why turn away extra sales.

So, the RX has better EPA ratings. Those are meaningless unless you can prevent the use, NEEDLESS use, of that 0-60 capability.

I'm perfectly satisfied with the 248HP in my '92 LS400...

    LS600h.... ?? WHY..?

Put a 300HP, NET, HSD system in the LS and my '92 would get traded in.

    KYHA, Korean Youth Hostel Association?

I would have clued in on HiHy immediately. I though HH was a new Lexus line.

    Either way Toyota/Lexus gets damned.

Some detractors will cry, "Hybrid? ... no way ... it won't pull a trailer". The HiHy/Lexus SUV gets built so a hybrid CAN do a bit better in the load/trailer hauling department.

Some detractors will cry, "Hybrid? ... no way ... it's mpg is too low". The HiHy/Lexus SUV gets built so hybrids CAN do a bit better in the mpg/eco department.

Sheesh. It aint a perfect world, so the manufacturers do the best that physics will accomodate. Put a woefully underpowered taxi into service that has to haul lots of luggage and people, it aint no way going to be getting any where NEAR it's epa rating ... especially sitting in traffic - idling. But the Toyota/Lexus SUV hybrid has a heafty sized traction pack that's perfectly happy doing just that very thing. That's why imo New York law makers got their heads crammed into a tight fitting space.

The taxi culture here in NYC consist of fleet owners, who want lower initial cost and most space. They don't give a hoot about MPGs since the individual drivers pay for their fuel. Owner-Operators those that own their own medallions care since they own their taxis and tend to want hybrids because they get better MPGs. IMO since fleet owners have more $$$ and that equals better lobbying they get what they want. Any NYC cabbies here feel free to jump in and correct me.

i dont think RX450h will have any issues beating new NV200 Nissan taxis when it comes to MPG on NY roads.
