I've got to replace front pads on my 08 Prius Touring. The dealerships are quoting me two different prices, apparently for two different grades of product. Less expensive pad is from their Value line at about $55 a set. Then there's there's the standard line at $104 a set. Does anyone know if the less-expensive line has any drawbacks? Both product lines are made to Toyota specs. Thank you.
Check what part numbers they are. Here's McGeorge's info, item #9: Front Brakes for 2008 Toyota Prius | Toyota Parts Part number from above: 04465-47050 Cost at McGeorge: $69.52 (plus shipping) This is kinda interesting too. A two-tier offering: Genuine Toyota 04465-47050 (0446547050) PAD KIT, DISC BRAKE, FRONT for Toyota Prius - Amayama
See prior thread on this very issue: https:// priuschat. com/threads/which-gen2-toyota-brake-pads-are-the-right-ones.214079/#post-3004232 Long story short: the parts manager at the local Toyota dealership recently discussed the following brake pads (which are all listed on their parts website as being suitable for my 2006 Prius): a.) P/N: 04465-47050 (highest price pads with low price online at dealer of $73 before S&H and on ebay for $79 including S&H); b.) P/N: 04465-AZ014-TM (same price as "c" pads with low price online at dealer of $38 before S&H and on ebay for $38 including S&H); and c.) P/N: 04465-AZ122* (same price as "b" pads with low price online at dealer of $38). My Local Toyota Dealership's Parts Manager (Mike) explained to me the following: 1. "a" brake pads are made in Japan by Toyota. 2. "c" brake pads have superceded "b" brake pads (but some NOS still exists). 3. "c" and "b" brake pads are/were made in USA to Toyota specifications by a qualified manufacturer (parts manager's best guess as to manufacturer of "c" was Nippondenso). "b" and "c" are referred to as "Toyota-After-Market" parts within Toyota (despite being sold at Toyota dealer with Toyota packaging). 4. 99% of Prius Gen2 brake jobs done at this Toyota dealership are done with the "c" brake pads.
The search feature on PC is working again, though the AI is currently down (you'll still need to pick a sub forum and digest the content). Recently @Ianmeister went with the less expensive Toyota OEM option ($40), and appears to be quite happy with the choice made : Brake Kit ideas? rockauto options? arg! | PriusChat
I've bought my pads from Brembo as it's a good and well known brand. At least here in Germany. As far, I can't see more wear than with the original ones. And the last general inspection by the technical supervisory association including brake check in the roller test rig was also fine. But they were somewhere online also cheaper than anything from my Toyota dealer. SM-G950F ?

Thank you all for your quick responses. There are some components for which I absolutely prefer to use OEM, brake parts especially. Thank you for that link to the online dealer, Tthe $38 price is amazing. I've got to set on order.
Once the brake pads arrive, please let us all know how they worked out for you. Also please let us know about S&H costs and time to get to you. Many thanks.
