OEM floor mats - replace only driver side?

Also looking for the driver mat.

 

Just to commiserate, I got nowhere fast in this thread:

I got fed up, fixed it myself, adding a rubber insert, which Toyota should have done in the first place, never seen a driver's floor mat without one:

Three~four years later, it's still hanging in there, albeit with a little touch-up stitching required, a year or two back.

 

Nice! I've always been a handy man. But sewing? That's some next level stuff..

 

Have you looked ebay? You can find OEM used floor mat cheap. May even find a drivers side only.

I did something similar on my van, years ago. Glued a piece on the back and the front. It was about 10 years ago, it's still
hanging in there, but has started to peel off. I rarely drive it anymore since getting the Prius so I don't worry about it.
The Prius came with the weather tech mats in the front. But I would purchase them if they didn't have them.
They are GREAT!

 

It's "manly" sewing, google "tandy lockstitch sewing awl". And I used a drill press to make the stitch holes, harrumph...

 

I looked it up. I thought it could be a useful tool to own. Then, I watched video on how to use it. Yeah, it's too manly for me to use this gadget one stitch at a time. lol

 

That clamp is cool.

I had one of those over 40 years back, don't know what became of it. Got another about 5 years back; very handy for sewing carpetting, rubber, leather, canvas.

Had to watch a video (probably that one) to get back into gear has to how you use it.

The thread is supplied, is saturated with some wax (beeswax?), and it all works very well.

 

Yep, he said it was beeswax.
I need to get one of those. I already have a few things I can use that on.
I wished I had know about that a few months back, and years....
Where did you get it from? A craft store?

 

Pretty sure Amazon, last time around. First time a leathercraft store of some sort I think. Yeah craft stores, up here we have Michaels, places like that.

 

You don't specify where you are located, but I might suggest you look for someone with a similar problem, but who is located somewhere where they drive on the opposite side of the road. e.g. I live here in the NE USA, so I might try looking for someone in the UK perhaps, and offer to go 50/50 for a new set of front mats. Either that, or start searching junk-yards (where they often totally strip wrecked cars for parts) - Good luck!
