Evaporative coolers only work in desert-like humidity. I'm also concerned about the health effect of "swamp" coolers. Back when I lived in Utah, at least once a month my dad would be up on the roof cleaning the swamp cooler so we wouldn't get sick. We knew of families that came down with odd respiratory ailments from the swamp cooler

There is no simple or magic solution to this. Due to all that glass - greenhouse effect - cooling a vehicle is troublesome and expensive. Of course, as a kid I remember we didn't even have A/C in the car, and we lived in southern Utah.

I guess we've become soft and lazy ...
