    Whooo. Big exhale. I was expecting to see a demolished rear end. Glad it wasn't that bad. Is it just the bumper cover & the styrofoam?

    I would check out the Toyota dealer's collision center and schedule a rental Prius from them for the duration. My guess is that it will be in the shop for a week.

    UPDATE..

    Got the car back from the Body Shop. It looks great now. $2700 was the final bill. Shocked.
    Luckily the insurance company of the party that hit me picks up the bill and pays for the rental car. (State Farm)

    That's what I thought as well.
    I used a State Farm authorized repair facility so I should be in the clear. That's all I care about.

    I agree, it's $700 job, I wouldn't surprise if someone charge twice, but $2700?

    my wives was just an oem bumper cover, a bracket and clips. maybe there was hidden damage?

    The cover is a 700 job . The rail and supports are close to 1k .. plus the bumper backing (foam). Adds up!

    Gosh. At the prices you all are quoting, I would be sorely tempted to fashion a substitute out of foam, fiberglass, wood, aluminum, whatever, I have seen bumpers replaced by bolted on pressure-treated 4x4s, but that does look plug ugly. Trying to preserve the controlled crush characteristics of the original when constructing a DIY replacement would be tricky, however.
