With the scale of testing that was done on the transmission fluid, I don't think anyone can honestly conclude (scientifically) that the fluid was truly "toast" and needed to be replaced every 60k. It was more of a comfort level conclusion that was made by some members. Nevertheless, I still change mine every 15k, but this does not mean it is needed.

It's still 5000 miles in Canada. Can someone chime in from Europe or other continents?

Canada is probably because of the cold. Not sure about Australia...is it dustier there than a lot of places? How far is it for Japan?

    For Europe it's 15000 km / about 9000 miles

What all these different numbers show you is how inexact oil mileage is. Do you notice they make every number (whether in km or m) divisible by 5k?

    My point is:
If they thought it is was much more important to be exact you would at least see a few numbers out there such a 9000 miles or 13000 km.

That's what it seems to me anyway.

Since our Gen3 transmissions don't have filter, it's a good idea to change the fluid at regular intervals to get the majority of the swarf out of the transmission if you are going to keep the car over 150k miles, or just like to take care of machinery.

Looks good and thanks for providing some data. Calcium is not a concern, as it is a prominent additive in both the SM and SN formulations of the Toyota 0w20. Your TBN was still over 2. Why would a TAN be helpful? I did not know that it was applicable to gas engine oil analysis...but I am always interested to learn!

based on what? What is a regular interval? If it's a good idea, why isn't it covered in scheduled maintenance at "regular intervals"?

My MB had it's first recommended oil change at 13kmi. subsequent oil change intervals were 13kmi.

A TAN would be helpful because it would indicate how well the oil is handling the acid contamination from combustion. The condemnation
point of an oil often is where then TBN and TAN meet, to slightly above the TBN. And yes, it is applicable to gas engine oil analysis.

Isn't it great we are parsing these perfect results to look for problems?

I miss the good old days of the Sienna "sludge" scare, and that excitement.

    Thanks for posting, Critic!

I'm impressed that Toyota has an OEM implied oil that is possibly better than Mobil 1. Thanks again!

It's very valuable for me to see the results of Mike's efforts. It's very useful and valuable to know that a proper synthetic oil/filter change is good for 10,000 miles. I don't think I need to perform analysis myself since Mike and others have done it.

Based on Gen III tranny oil analysis, the consensus here is to change at 30K, then at 60K intervals thereafter.

Is that what the manual says for the PiP? 30k? I suppose it is highly dependent on your ability to plug in.

Why would you go full throttle before the car is warmed up? You are causing undue wear on the engine and drivetrain. In 9000 miles, I've only floored the accelerator once.

I have a friend with a fleet of prius taxis in la. They run the crap out of those cars and get rid of them at 300k. They change oil every 10k and zero mechanical failures.

What is the big deal with everyone not wanting to drive the car to it's intended use?

There's something to that. Still, we're a "stone's throw" north of the US border on temperate climate west coast. Meanwhile, in Fargo, North Dakota...

I like the 8000 km (or six months) Canadian interval. Don't care that I might have a bit more life in the oil. For me the 6 month portion of the interval invariably governs, so bi-yearly: out with the old, in with the new.

Back a few decades I was changing the oil every 3 months or 5000 km's, LOL. So this feels like a long stretch for me. ;)
