I plan on going 5w-30 when my free oil changes are used up. CA climate doesn't require anything special

I live in Florida and car doesn't get in really cold weather. I just got my 2010
with 51,000 miles, about 6 months ago. I changed to 5-30 Pennzoil Platinum
    and car loves it.

I've just switched to 0w30. Perhaps a minute change in mpg- I'm talking less than 1mpg. Seems to run just as well and I made the swap as I was a little concerned with the long term effects of running 0w20.

45000 miles, but I will be doing 20000 miles a year so this will soon rack up

Well, I fixed my issue.....and traded in for a new 2016 Hypersonic Red Prius 2. All the Toyota clearance sales commercials, during the Olympics, got me thinking and it became a no-brainer with 0% financing. I am gonna miss the 2010, because it got the family through an interesting time in our lives and served us very well. However I won't miss the oil burning and rough starting issue. Now I am just hoping these issues have been resolved before the 2016 model year came out :)

    Bump.

There is misinformation out there on Bitog currently, provided by, of all people, those who are legitimately the experts on motor oil.

Typical Japanese style motor oil, very thin, with larger doses of viscosity index improvers and very high viscosity indexes, for example TGMO and Idemitsu, give slightly improved mpg numbers.

However this is accomplished with deleterious side effects over long mile usage, such as oil consumption, piston ring coking, and damaged smog equipment, all from failing chemistry.

Sustina 0W20 is designed differently. The base stock is Group III, ultra refined, to yield uniform, elongated molecules and a "naturally" very thin motor oil. LOW DOSAGE VII's are included.

Sustina 0W20 VI 229 is the best choice for fuel economy and extended OCI.

I have confirmed this personally, as a consumer who used Sustina for 60k miles and conducted used oil analysis at 10, 15, 17, and 20k miles. The only issue was oxidative thickening at somewhere between 17 and 19k miles.

I would love to dialog sonofjoe on this subject, provide him further consumer based detail, and absorb carefully his, and other world class experts, feedback.

FWIW I currently use Pennzoil Gold 0W20. Dex1/Gen2. 7.5k mile OCI. 15k mile FCI.
