Im now a few months old with my 3nd gen prii and I have done oil change twice at an interval of 10000 kms. What is the right oil change interval? Another question is, is the Prius engine crankshaft engaged to the gearbox throughout?

It's full synthetic, very 10k miles in the US. Maintenance light comes on every 5k miles but they only cal for oil every other time.

In the US the oil change interval is roughly 16,100km but we use 0w20 full synthetic oil.
In some markets outside the US the interval is 8,000km. [corrected - see below]

I change mine every 8,000km and my company uses a bit thicker blend (5w30.)

Your decision, but I would see what Toyota recommends for your part of the world.
The most important thing to do is to ensure that your oil level is checked every 1600km or monthly.

    No.
Not if I'm understanding the question.....

In Canada 3rd gen Prius oil change interval is 8000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first.
In Australia it's 10,000 km or 6 months.

it maybe what toyota recommends there. every country is a little different. keep in mind that operating conditions and climates differ, as well as competition, which also drives some of these specs.

This a somewhat a trick question. The short answer is yes; there is no clutching mechanism between the crankshaft and the power split device. That said, it does not follow that the crankshaft is rotating when the vehicle is moving.

The gearing in the PSD with computer control of MG1 and MG2 allow the ICE to be stopped yet still provide power to the wheels to propel the car.

5w30 is fine for a 2010, especially in a warmer climate.
You'll just get a little lower fuel efficiency - probably not even noticeable depending on your driving conditions.

If I were you, I'd change the oil every 8,000km and follow the maintenance schedule for:
"Additional Maintenance Items for Special Operating Conditions" .....if you feel that your local driving conditions warrant this.....particularly if you live outside a large city or along the coastal region.

    Here's a copy.
    https://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/omms-s/T-MMS-10Prius/pdf/2010_Prius_WMG_0W20_lr.pdf

    Note!
This is the US maintenance information. Other than the fact that the steering wheel is on the other side of the car (we drive on the other side of the road in the US) I feel that the car is basically the same - BUT I may be incorrect.

You can perhaps download the international version from Toyota's site for free:
Toyota Online Owners Manuals and Warranty

    Good Luck!

Toyota in Australia recommends either 0W20, 5W20 or 5W30 as being acceptable for full temperature range. 5W30 would actually be beneficial as far as engine protection/longevity I would think.

Now that I'm over 100k miles (145k), I try to get it around 7500 miles, but I'm adding a quart along the way. Just did it last night.

Ummmm....... I would need a pretty tall ladder to add a quart like that.
