Hi so I have a Prius gen 3rd TOYOTA PRIUS XW3(A) (2011) so i just bought the car 6 months ago when it had 52.000miles and now it has 57.000miles with full details of service intervals and changes and so on in a very good shape THE car was not driven that much as you can see the miles.

But then I was reading the manual about Oil recommendation 0-20w is recommended or 5-30w but even the second one YOU can use but again you should be changing it to 0-20w.. Then I saw the last the service of the car oil was made with 5-40w wich is not even in any Prius recommendation so then I was thinking sometimes the transition can be bit harsher from electricity to gas engine compared to some hybrid I have been driving before(wich were fairly new 2018 and up) maybe it has to do with oil?

So my question is should I change again to 0-20w or 5-30w from 5-40w is it to risky to jump to 0-20w?
Keep in mind I live in Norway (wich is not that hot even in summer)

BTW I have another question wich oil would you recommend Mobil 1 ESP universal, Castrol Edge, Also there is a cheaper version of Mobil 1 Super 3000 X1 FORMULA FE universal, Does this matter or what matters is the most the oil type not the brand of it?

Last oil change was done with a Mobile 1 3000, Can this be an issue and 5w20 would be better than 0w20 for now right?

Yeah in North American Owner Manual the recommended oil is 0W20, and 5W20 is “tolerated”. For what it’s worth previous gen the recommended was 5W30.

in Norway I’d go with 0W20, year round.

    I would stick with 0w20.
