I've read some threads about our beloved Prius using oil, mine started around the early 200K mark.

    My question is:

How many miles per quart do you get?

Mine is just over 1400 miles per quart of Mobil 1 5W30, that's the reason my wife drives the 2015 Prius C because she ran it almost out once but as long as I check her every time i fill the tank she still does quite well.

I believe it different for everyone just one of those things. Look around for the piston soak threads here. You might be able to reduce that oil consumption.

I've an '07 Prius with 235K (mostly freeway) miles and use Mobil 1 full synthetic 0W-20 that's changed every 9K miles and it burns less than 2 quarts of oil between oil changes... I'm a happy camper. :)

The answer to this will be worthless to you.
    Each case is different.

I think you are a good candidate to try a high mileage oil of a heavier weight.
It might cut the loss a bit and buy you a few thousand extra miles.

That is assuming that the oil loss is NOT from an external leak somewhere.

Helping someone have perspective on oil consumption is useful not worthless... The only thing that's worthless in this discussion is your condescending tone.

Never mind, I was thinking of a different thread. I still stand with piston soak. It’s inexpensive to try.

Unless maybe it is your insistence on posting personal insults instead of anything helpful.

Simply stating the oil usage from various owners of various models without stating the individual circumstances for each example is indeed useless information.

But you can believe whatever you want.
And if bashing me makes you happy, go right ahead.
    I've taken worse from better.

@ 200,000 miles? First of all, 600 miles per liter burned (per Toyota) is not normal and neither is 1,400 miles. All engines (as it applies) wear out. You can milk it for a while by anally checking you oil level and increasing the viscosity, but it's to late in the season to restore with snake oil. Piston soaks, carbon flushes, ect... will loosen things up, but results in looser clearances in an old motor are more often counter productive. Even if a 1.8 liter Prius motor is maintained religiously...which most are not...they wear out.

You told our guest (they are new here) that their question is worthless!

I yet again questioned your offensiveness and basic civility. I will continue to do so...

Simply stated you are cruel mean person who'd rather offend than be positive and supportive...

    Again and again and again...

The original Sam Spade was banned and if I have anything to say about it Sam Spade 2 needs to be banned as well.

You don't even know how to change your own cabin air filter by yourself and yet you repeatedly involve yourself in discussions of which you know nothing about. Your reputation speaks for itself... #bansamspade2

Guess you can't handle the truth.
The truth is not always pretty.

And I did NOT say that the question was worthless......but that the answers would be.

And your personal attacks are beyond worthless.

If my posts upset you, stop reading them.

AND.....people who post here are usually adults and can fend for themselves.
I suggest that they do NOT need you to tell when they should be offended.

This thread isn't intended for anything other than seeing what others are getting in oil consumption.

Mine has almost 300K on it & doesn't leak oil amazingly but i know she uses it, I'm fairly consistent in changing the oil every 5K with Moibil 1 5W30.

I have a lady friend in my church who asked me to look at her Highlander last night & it was 2.5 quarts low on oil at 198K, told her to start checking it more frequently.

While he does not state what year the car is, he did post in the gen 2 forum. Gen 2’s use the 1.5 liter engine.

That engine does have a known flaw with the oil rings and piston lands. They used revised pistons and oil rings on later models. Piston soaks won’t increase a clearance where that is not the problem. As I have stated members here have had good results with piston soaks and it costs very little to try.
