On the 2016 Corollas, some were delivered with the cartridge type oil filters and some have regular spin on oil filters. According to the following thread, Toyota switched to the spin on filters for the 2017 Corolla. What type of oil filter do you have? - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums.

Does anyone know if the Prius has switched to the spin on filters as well?

    Has anyone converted their Prius?

I didn't know this was even possible!! I may switch to this sometime soon. I like the spin on filters better.

    Interesting.

Still, regardless of it being a bit awkward (and dangerous: you CAN reinstall the housing without a filter), I like the reusable housing and just the filter being changed. Better for the environment.

Problems with removing the filter housing can be laid at the doorstep of the dealerships: I've always done DIY, torqued it to spec'd 18 ft/lb, and never any problems breaking it loose at the next oil change. I do use a long handled ratchet wrench, makes life easier.

Still I can see the interest, it is more convenient.

(The pictures don't appear to be from the same car, btw.)

It looks like Marshall (in the comments section) did this mod on his 2012 Plug in. Does anyone know if the parts are the same as the Corolla?
