Oil filter fell off, then engine knocking, now P3190 and P0A0F

We were specifically discussing the OEM filter, not every filter in general.

 

My “dedicated tool” is Honda’s oil filter wrench. For anyone interested, just Google that description, for sources, latest part no. I’d highly recommend it; it’s heavy gauge, simple as dirt, works on Honda, Toyota, Mazda, in my experience. 14 flute (IIRC) and roughly 64.5 mm inside face-to-face.

 

Even an "OEM" filter can have tiny changes over time.
For instance, the gasket material can change to something that is a bit stiffer.

If you're not in a hurry there is this on Amazon: '1/2 Square Drive 65mm 14 Flutes End Cap Oil Filter Wrench Auto Tool for Toyota Drop Ship'. Back in Oct 2017 it only cost me NZ$11.69 (US$8.05) with free delivery (I see that has gone up a few dollars since) and I then wondered why I didn't get one sooner. It might not be as flash looking as the Honda but it works well.

 

Just a little history: I bought the aforementioned Honda oil filter wrench back around 1990. At the time Honda used a significantly larger diameter oil filter on their cars (I have another oil filter wrench in that size), and the "65 mm" size was for theiir motorcycles.
