I'm talking about every modern Toyota sold in the United States since 1965.

Well if thats the way it's done then I'm wrong. I have never seen that in a Toyota before. But I have never owned a Gen 3 and I dont comment there.

I think Mendal should really stop posting in the Gen 2 thread. No gen 2 has that oil filter system and he should just talk in gen 3.

My 2007 Tundra 5.7 has the disposable paper filter/ permanent housing. I upgraded the cheap feeling plastic kind for a stronger aluminum cap. Of my 5 Toyota/Lexus vehicles it’s the only one that doesn’t have a spin on filter. I much prefer the older style spin on filter for sure!

    What engines did they have?

I'm not trying to be rude or something why are you saying that to me?

Gen 2 Prius is already pretty old car. And the 1nz-fxe engine came out in 1997. So that's why it has spin on filter.

Gen 2 Prius has a spin on filter, apparently gen 3vhas
I have no preference either way, unless you have to get both of your hands and at least 1 arm covered in nasty diesel oil, thats what I had to look forward to changing the oil in my 1972 Mercedes 220D. My BMW straight 6 is easy money. Cap on top, no mess. Is your Toyota like that?

Perhaps because we are in the Gen 2 thread and the advice given from Mendal was wrong?

We are in the Gen 2 thread, so any advice should be related to that model. Gen 3 or whatever advice is incorrect and wrong. Mendel should have not even commented, his bad advice just confuses people.

Not really, because a Gen 2 Prius uses a spin on filter. My advice is 100% correct for a Gen 2 Prius.

Mendals advice was 100% wrong and could confuse people.

Unfortunately no, the Tundra oil filter is underneath the engine, and it’s a messy job. Each new oil filter comes with a disposable drain Valve that is supposed to make the job less messy, but I haven’t had any luck getting it to work. I simply remove the cap and deal with the mess.

I’ve also owned Merc’s and BMW’S, and loved those style of cap oil filters. Easy to Access and no mess!

Well. I could then ask what was your point when you started talking about gen 3 and all other Toyota engine filters? You claimed that none of them are cartridge filters. I corrected that and tried to figure out why you thought of that.

My BMW 6 cyl is super easy filter on the top of the engine. You loosen the filter cap any any oil just drains down into the oil pan. My 2005 Tacoma is very similar except it has a spin off filter and funnel of sorts with a drain hole, when you get the air break you get the oil flow, I put a catch can under for that.

My point was this is the Gen 2 thread. Any advice about another engine or Gen is incorrect and misleads someone asking a question relating to that model. You cant figure out that yourself?
