If your talking about buying a new car and driving it forever, I would suggest either a Toyota Corolla or a 4 cyl Toyota Camry.

My 92 Lexus LS400 is the best car EVER built. Mine still feels new and I have been told by the dealer that at 180k miles the car is still breaking in. There are a few that are near 1 million miles and one that I know of that has reached 1 million miles.

If that's the criteria, let's talk about Irv Gordon and his '66 Volvo with 3.2 million miles on it.

The engine was rebuilt at 650k, but hasn't been opened since. And once he hit a million, Volvo started picking up the tab for all maintenance and repair, so it costs him nothing, and hasn't since 1987.

Okay, at 180k miles I have only done regular service. Everything is original.

And I believe that the Volvo still has its original (manual) transmission!

I do love those first gen LS400’s though. Toyota spent a ton of money and effort into that motor and they’re bulletproof.

Try driving one with an automatic transmission in San Francisco and get back to me.
Had 2 220-D’s myself. The stick was way better than the auto.
