this is second purchase of my 05 prius from amazon. First one fit perfectly and didnt have any issue. However i got the second battery recently from amazon again.

Finally i had the time to install it last weekend, but the positive and negative knob size were way smaller than previouse one.

Is there any change in recent optima batteries?

You should call optima's 800 number and ask them

I'm guessing last time around you modified cable clamps to suit larger posts? Or the cables were mod'd before you got it?

OEM size is the small posts, they're referred to as JIS, maybe. Do you have the old clamps/cable?

Not a good outcome for the Optima batteries. Car 10 years old on it's third battery. Assuming the first battery lasted the usual 4 to 5 years the Optima lasted no longer than the OEM.

John beat me to the same conclusion. And, pair that life with the reports on Optima I have seen on P/C and I think I will stick with the Toyota battery, which, while expensive comes with a few extra perks that one would probably never need, but nice to have anyway...

    • 84-month warranty
    • 24- month free replacement
    • 60-month proration in a two-tiered price plan
    • Coast-to-coast warranty service at more than 1,200 dealerships
    • 24-month emergency roadside assistance/towing and installation labor
This earlier post by the OP seems to suggest that the cables have been altered from the original.

My experience with the Optima battery lasted just one month outside of the warranty. Got a Exide battery instead , 4+ years now.
