Eventually the long rumored Model S/X upgrades especially the 4680 pack, may have led to fewer build-to-order cars. The challenge is to find when the refresh and restructure of the Model S/X lines make sense.

    Source:

    • 5:35 Model S - speculations: (1) have excess capacity and do not want to make excess inventory; (2) refreshing the Model X/S, and; (3) normal maintenance.
    • 7:15 - maintenance schedule impacts last week of Q4 2020 and two weeks of Q1 20201. A good time to minimize the effect on production numbers.
    • 7:43 - if there were a demand problem, it would make sense to shutdown totally in one quarter rather than have a low demand problem impact two quarters.
    • 8:05 - Tesla reduced the price on Model S in Q4 2020 which would alleviate any demand problems as lower price leads to more sales.
    • 9:28 - mis-diagnosis of reduced production as a 'loss of demand' ignores other constraints such a supply or other externals (aka., COVID-19) impacting the production runs. Too quick claims of "no demand' is the mark of Tesla skeptics (who should SHORT the TSLA stock.) Remember Tesla builds to order, not to dealer inventory.
    • 1037 - "Electrek learned that Tesla has already achieved its goal for Model S and Model X deliveries this quarter and now it is focusing on increasing Model 3 and Model Y production for orders and inventory that they could quickly deliver locally, mainly in California and China ..."
    • ... - rehash various rumors
    Merry Christmas Tesla!

BTW, I didn't review everything in this feature rich video. Perhaps others can share when and what Rob discussed that you found interesting. FYI, there is a time-directory of Rob's comments.
