Other than changing how you drive, what can be done to increase MPG's?

Update on the whole eco-normal-power thing.....

So totally un scientific but for three days I tried to drive the same way as closely as possible, and drove the same route at approximately the same time of day and traffic was about the same. Temps were close to the same as well. My drive is about a mile to the interstate, then 53 miles of mostly 70 MPH and then about another mile to my parking garage. I tried to stay at 70-75 on the way in to work in the mornings, and did more like 75-78 on the way home. On day one with ECO mileage was 44.9, on day two in just normal mode it was 44.4, and on day three with power on mileage was 44.1.

I did not start with a full tank each day, so the car was a bit lighter each day based on fuel consumption. Only other weight variable was that I took my lunch to work on all but the last day, cause we had pizza at work on Wednesday!

It is WAY more responsive when I run it in power or normal compared to eco, and you don't have to switch back and forth, so I think it's just going to be normal from now on. Even if I loose one MPG, and drive a lot, that's only like $25 in a year. I MAY try this again and do a whole week at a time and try and be more accurate in my driving but I just don't know if it's worth the effort.

I had it in ECO for maybe the first 6 months, then partially because I was getting fed up with the ECO pedal travel, and also because we were on a road trip over to Vancouver Island, I switched to Normal, and saw no appreciable change in mpg, and pedal response much more linear.

Yeah for me its easier to control, esp under 45 ev mode and get up to speed.

Have you tried it on the interstate in normal? I have a few times and still see MPG go up. It handles inclines easier too.

As long as it stays 2 dashes above the middle green line and below it goes up in mpg

What are these dashes you speak of?

Its the pedal position graph (whatever its called) in the bottom left of the display where chg and ev lights up.

Small green dashes will go up and down that area. The green line is the one i mentioned.

    It's called "Hybrid System Indicator".

The Gen 3 is a smooth bar that fills the area - we don't have dashes (or individual bars/pips) so harrysprius won't see that.

Yeah its a v. I thought the instrumentation at least would be the same. Maybe not.

I'm at 48 mpg (46 actual probably) on the tank with over half to go.

So a combination of E0 89 octane ($2.55 and cheaper than 87), having the Toyota fuel system service done and cooler air is helping

Yeah you have a Prius v. harrysprius has a regular Liftback.

The instrument cluster is different between all 3 Prius models. The Gen 4/Prime are the only ones that share the instrument cluster.

That spot and lower mpg goes up, even at 71-72 mpg...depending on the incline. But overall it adds up.

Paranormal Rob, I do have something like that, it's just horizontal but basically the same thing.

I average about 44 mpg on ECO mode, highest fulll tank with 2 pips left is about 330 miles and 41 mpg on standard mode, highest is 300 on 2 pips left.. mostly streets I drive going to work.. I have these Jinyu tires that came with the wheels.. I should change my tires soon.. Maybe it will change my mpg's higher.. Still do not know how to make my mpg to 50 average.. But I'd be happy with just about 48 mpg.. I wish I can get to 400 miles with 2 pips left..
