Oh. It actually bricked the unit!? Not good.

And what do you mean by *old loader*?
Do you have the name or version of this loader?
(I'm asking because I received only the update.exe file...)

Did you get any error messages on the screen?

    Hi Glenn and al,

well it looks like the JBL issue has finally been fixed with 9.02 MCU firmware!

I have installed it on my unit, removed the Scosche adapter and plug the JBL harness. The JBL sound is now working perfectly.
And the difference compared to using the Scosche adapter is simply incredible. I mean much much better sound quality.
And you get back your Illumination wire at the same time.

Comes also with an option to disable your HBRAKE if you dare risking your life watching videos while driving. (Did not test it though...)

So I guess now we could say this unit is truly PlugNPlay even with Prius equipped with JBL. The only unit that can achieve this if I'm not mistaken.

I have to say that the Ottonavi people (Mr Kuo especially) never let me down and took care of our problem even in the middle of CES. I really appreciate their support.

    Oh! And beware version 9.05!!!!
This one has several issues and may actually brick your unit...
Which makes me think maybe it was meant for a different kind of Prius model in Asia or somewhere...

Bulle, you are right about Mr. Kuo, he's fantastic. He sent me your email that you got 9.02 to work along with the link from Roadrover for 9.02. I put it on tonight, have to admit I was a little nervous. But it works great. I took my Scosche out and you are right, much better sound.

I AM VERY HAPPY!!!! A big thanks to BULLE & to MR. KUO!!!!

    THANKS.

Ahhh very nice! Yes big thanks to Mr Kuo and Mrs Jolie.
I tested everything I could quickly but I have to admit I did not have the time to test every possible conditions especially on the road.
So it's still possible that we'll find some glitches like distortion at high volume or other things. Time will tell...

I actually noticed that 9.05 had an option in the DVD menu for ASL (the stock radio has it) but not 9.02.
    But I can live without...
The HBRAKE option (if it works) is actually quite nice to have for installers.

Well I guess they put a disclaimer before because JBL had some issues.
But now the same unit works with JBL as well IF you have firmware 9.02.
Which hopefully they will install for you before shipping.

You can always ask them if you want to be sure.
They have very nice support. Ask Mr Kuo, he knows what the problem was.

I tried reaching Kuo, and he wasnt in yet. Im wondering if the update is something you download onto an SD CARD and uploading it? What happens if the unit bricks while trying to install the updated firmware. Will they replace the unit? Or am I responsible for it because I did the update wrong...dont think that would be fair

Update is really easy; just a few clicks away.
They provide a pdf file with instructions.
Basically, you need to install 3 files on the root of the sd card.
Then you run one of the .exe file and select the firmware and hit update. Will take 1-2 minutes and then reboot.

Hopefully, the new units will come with it.

I forgot to mention that it's probably better to actually power on the car while you do the update.
Reason is because the Prius can shut down itself on low battery if you are on ACC only. So you don't want the firmware update to be cut in the middle...

Does this 9.02 firmware update fix only JBL issues, or does it fix the volume differential between iPod and Radio volumes that seems to be present regardless of whether you're using JBL or not? I don't have JBL and the volume differential is pretty jarring - though not really hard to work around - though it can be ear splitting if I forget to adjust the volume before switching from the iPod to the radio.

It would be nice if the firmware upgrade also included some other color schemes other than the default. They include a menu for changing it, but there's only one included so it's rather useless.

I didn't see any difference for the volume on the iPod. There's still a difference.
Not a big problem but a bit annoying at times.

As for color schemes, I don't care too much so I haven't checked.
Will let you know if I can think of it next time I'll look.

This looks like a minor firmware fix.
I haven't found any other difference yet except may be the HBRAKE thing.

Grounding the HBRAKE connection is so easy anyway, I think the HBRAKE software setting is somewhat redundant anyway.

You run the one that has STM8 in its name.
Then you select the file with the .s19 extension.

You are in Ontario, you should just go by and have Kuo do the update for you.

The volume differential is still there and you are right, it's annoying, but normally I just turn it down before I go to the radio. But if I forget, darn it's loud.

I agree, I just grounded the pink wire.
