While surfing the Russian forums, I found these 2 skins: "dark color" and "shallow bright" and tested them on my unit.

They load OK but they are not exactly spectacular.
But at least it shows we can customize a lot.
The radio screen is weird because it has a different look than the UI radio screen itself (not sure how that works yet) and you can scan for an RDS type and apparently rename a station.

Anyway, just posting for sharing; not sure if it's actually useful. Pics and link below.

I came across this site called innosoft.us that has an abundance of wince related software/images etc. for building interfaces on mobile devices.

It's geared to the DVD/Nav mobile GUI interfaces.

Pretty cool stuff. Seems to have the same contents as MioPocket, may be a bit more, but with their own UI instead of iPhoneToday.
    I will check it out.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Finally!

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6709347/Prius/CFM_v003.zip

CFM_v003 is out. This adds themed screens for:

    #51 - Audio Fade & Balance
    #19 - Skin selector screen
    #10 - CD screen
    #11 - DVD
    #16 - Time adjustment
    #20 - Brightness
    #31 - File Browser
    #45 the AUX screen
    #50 Warning screen

I think I've done almost all screens. If anyone comes across missing or incomplete screens please let me know and I will update.

    Hi Clayfree,

nice work! Very very nice on my unit; just love it. Very slick!

So yes there are a few screens still with the old blue.
    89,90,91.
These are used for the Radio rename station and local and Bluetooth also.
Accessible from the small gear on the left. (I didn't know that...)
Never realized because I thought that was Audio settings...
Not even sure it's worth it because I never manage to change the name anyway because there is no keyboard to be found... yet.

Also 482.png is actually a background for other screens as well like the Custom App screen. So the clock shape should not be in there.

So at this point, with so few .pngs remaining to change, may be it would be better to do them all in case we miss any screen that we don't know yet.
If you have time of course! I realize it's a lot of work.

I will start using this one for a little while to see how it goes...

Thanks so much for making this UI look so much better!

So while I was testing Clayfree's new skin, I came accross this feature in the radio that I didn't know about.
You can actually scan only for Rock stations or Classical stations, etc.

You already know you can activate Program Type by selecting PTY; that will display RDS info on the screen which is nice especially if you took the time to fix manager.exe (see FAQ at first post).

But if you press and hold PTY, a new screen comes up with all the names of the different station types and if you select one, it will scan the air until it finds one.
Pretty neat. A lot easier to scan your favorite style especially when traveling far away.

As always this unit is full of surprises!
How hard is it to document those things?!

    OK Bulle, here's CFM_v004:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6709347/Prius/CFM_v004.zip

Since 482 is shared by other internal screens I used the blue background. That means the home screen looks different if you are not using a wallpaper. I took care of all the other screens you mentioned and have switched over the smaller dialogue screens to the black mesh background.

Next step will be take care of all remaining graphics

    Enjoy!

    Bulle,
I also came across an undocumented radio feature as well.

Check it out. It's something the single PC members could use on bad dates. (HA)

The space is for the TV image that requires a special module.
I will leave it in as a conversation piece.

    Awesome!
    Not much left now...
That will be our first truly new official skin.

How many hours would you say you put altogether? (Just curious)

    Woot!

As you can see below, got Internet working on my unit finally using Wincepatch!
(using a wifi dongle connected to the unit and through my phone 3G connexion)
Ottonavi told me it couldn't be done...

Fun stuff but not sure yet if it's really worth the trouble.
A bit slow on this device and I'm guessing many sites won't load properly. But you can use it to get your emails pop up on the screen or access your Remote PC too...
That's a start. Who needs Entune?!

Also some info on the different packages I tried:
MioPocket: quite big, installed OK, slow to load, no wifi and lost my UPDATE button... grrr.

Innosoft: even bigger version of MioPocket, SD-Free only, has wifi but scripts would need to be tweaked to make it work
(did not try it; don't want to overload my Flash memory)

Wincepatch: installed easily, quick load, wifi installation had to be done manually but it works!

Does anyone know the FCC ID number on the unit?

The FCC ID number should be some where on the actual HU.

Finally, I got hold of the Windows OS 1.5 files which should be the ones originally shipped with this unit.
I tested it several times; it's good to go.

Also got hold of 1.51 but did not test it.

Also got the files for the UI version 2.78.10, also shipped originally with the unit.
So these, plus the MCU firmware means that we can reliably restore the unit to its original state in case of problems.

I feel much better now knowing we can pretty much try anything we want.

I finally finish a complete Windows Metro theme. :)

This is a full Metro look for the unit including the background and a boot up Toyota logo.bmp

Below are pics of what it looks like. I also tested this theme for a week, found no issues. But let me know if you do find any.

    Enjoy!

Finally, here is the RRUITool that will let you modify the skins.
Thanks to Clayfree and Dehhh for testing it.

With it, you can easily change the art of any skin file (.rrui).
You can also go crazy and try to edit individual elements properties in the text file.
Be warned; it takes some patience to edit the hexadecimal stream...
    You'll see what I mean...

It's really rude and crude software (meaning poorly written) but it works.
I'm too busy right now with other things so it's going to take a while before I can come up with a new version.
There's actually quite a lot of work to make it more user friendly.

For the instructions and the RRUI file format, etc. look at the Help button.
    File is here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/63503986/RRUIToolv05.zip
