I want to install the led blinkers behind the outside mirrors. Has anyone done this or disassembled one of the mirrors?
    Thanks,
    Dan

that would be pretty cool. if it's like most cars out there, removal of the door panel and adjacent interior mirror cover is required. from there, should be a few mounting nuts and electrical harness assy.

You don't need to remove the Mirror head from the car or the door trim panel.

#1 - Remove the mirror. The glass from the mirror pivot has 4 clips that must be released to remove the glass.
#2 - Remove the mirror back cover. It also has clips. I think it has 4 also.
#3 - After you get the back cover removed you'll see the retaining clips for the turn signal light lens. It has 2 clips
that must be pushed to release it from the mirror housing. Then you can replace the bulb.

This is what I see with the back removed. I can't figure out how to get the glass mirror off. 100_1835 (Medium).JPG

The Mirror has 4 clips that attach to the pivot on the power motor head.

    Here's a few images.

You can't replace just the bulb in the mirror mounted turn signal. The bulb, plug and lens are a sealed
unit. Toyota really did a number on this design. I plan on cutting it open to replace the bulb with an LED bulb.

Every time I see these indicators it seems to be on high end vehicles. They are sold on eBay for 10 bux a pair..come in red or amber.

You get behind the mirror with your finger and push the tab away from the pin and it pops off.
You can gain access to the first one by pushing the mirror towards the bottom and out. Work from the top
side and it pops off pretty easy.

If you look close at my images in post #6, you can see how the mirror has two tabs. One on each side that slips over the pin on the motor pivot head.

They just slip over the motor heads pivot pin. Look at the red arrow I placed in the images and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Those images were taken from my car.

Then, does the glass remove from the plastic so we might mount the led arrow indicators? If so, I am about to order a set.
    Thanks for helping me understand.

I don't know. It looks like it's just using a sticky back paper to hold it to the plastic. Is the aftermarket LED Arrow kit
a new glass ? If so, you should be able to remove the original mirror glass from the plastic backer and install the LED Arrow kit.

No, it sticks on the back of the glass and shines through. I will need to get the glass separated from the plastic.

You might need to buy a new glass or modify the plastic backing plate to accept the LED display ???
I don't know as I have not done this modification. Let us know.

From studying your photo I am about to conclude that the plastic will need to be cut to allow the led to fit.

That's my assumption too  You'll also need to clean the paper backing off to expose the LED's
    to the mirror.

I would wait and get the kit and lay it out. Cut the backing plate and remove the paper only in that section.
Don't attempt to remove the mirror from the backing plate. It's gonna break, I guarantee it :censored:

Do you have a link for the LED kit ? Thanks!
