After putting Royal Purple Max fuel cleaner into our gasoline, we soon after had the P0117 error code pop up. Is this possibly an error, or could it have damaged a sensor? The engine has also started to act a little "funny", rattling a bit when accelerating from a complete stop and seems to be overheating.

Well if it is truly a P0117 (and not a typo of P0171), then I would imagine a code relating to the engine coolant temperature sensor is purely coincidental.

The situation has gotten worse; we are now unable to go anywhere without the car shaking violently.

Any dash lights or trouble codes?
