    10 is for battery,15 is for emissions from what i understand.

    My money is on you got a rebuilt battery. How/Why? Previous owner replaced/repaired it, then got rid of the car. You happily bought the car not knowing/askingcritical questions about the HV battery.

    If the batt was genuine OEM HV battery, owner would keep the car. How/why? Expensive repair, but the car could go for another 10years/100K+ miles. $2K+ would be a cheap repair investment for another 10years/100K miles.

    Pop the top HV battery case, and examine all the serial numbers. The serial numbers on the modules should be sequential. Are they?

    Prepare for this replacement. The good news, genuine OEM HV batts have dropped to $1600 online. You will have to find a dealer who will sell to you or your mechanic, and who will sell at that online price, or match, or lower their asking price.

    Forgot to mention that I don’t have a code reader, so I’m not sure if it’s still the p0420. But prior to pulling that code before this whole ordeal, I had never had any problems with this vehicle.

    Man, I really hope this isn’t the case..but I’d be lying if I said this thought hadn’t crossed my mind. Maybe I’ll pop open that case and check it out.

    What does the invoice say? And wat company did the replacement of the Hv battery?

    Rebuilders will reuse the case and just replace the weak/failed modules.

    Dormat and FraudTech(Greentech) paint the cases orange and green respectively.

    Removal of that top cover is required to see the module serial numbers.

    If you pop that cover off and take a pic we can figure it out fast. Looks like a legit replacement atm so far..

    My old cat looks fine and it had the 420 code. Never came back after it was replaced though. But wondering if the rear O2 sensor could have been the problem. Hell if the front O2 is original it's efficiency has to be off a little I'm sure. I have 237,000 miles.

    Just dropped my car off at Luscious - you guys weren’t joking. That place is legit as they come. I spoke with Gina who I believe is the shop manager. I told her everything about the car and she was super helpful and explained that my car most likely needs a new hybrid battery. They install OEM batteries for 2950 including parts and labor, or replace all of the existing modules with new ones for 2750.

    This all took place before a specialist diagnosed my car, so they are going to call me back after it receives a proper diagnosis, but she explained that based on what’s going on that this is most likely the problem.

    If miraculously my battery doesn’t need replacing and the fix is cheaper, I will most likely be moving forward with a repair from them...but in all honesty I’m not prepared to spend that kind of money on this car right now, especially since I still owe the bank a little on it - and my girlfriend and I are getting ready to move into our own place next month / prepping for all of the expenses that come along with that.

    I really appreciate everyone’s input and contributions of knowledge to this thread. Thank you for helping me out in a time of need and confusion. Hope everyone is having a great week so far. I’ll keep you all updated as I move forward.

    You can do the hv battery repair yourself for much less if you are willing to spend the time to fix it. Got multiple threads on here about it.

    Repair as in replacing old modules? I’m not super well versed w/ hybrid technology - although I have always worked on all my own cars & motorcycles etc...wouldn’t want to bite off more than I could chew with this thing.

    Just drove home from Luscious and the car was losing power like crazy / only going 30 with the pedal almost floored. I was super careful and thankfully made it home.

    That being said - does anyone here have any info on reconditioned batteries or battery rebuilding services in the Bay Area?
    Ideally I’d like to get one of those and then sell the car, or just sell it without rebuilding as a whole car to someone who would replace it.

    Any info is appreciated.

    You never really verified what the replacement battery is but the odds are very, very likely it's just a rebuilt from a vendor who doesn't paint their cases which most smaller operators don't. Anyways, it sounds like it's a failed again and is in emergency turtle mode.

    Sorry, forgot to respond to this before. I bought the car from a sketchy used lot, looking back I should’ve never even went there. But the car looked and drove great in person, the guy assured me that the battery had been replaced recently and he had paperwork for it. Fast forward after buying the car, a few trips to the bank etc I forgot to get that paperwork for him - he said that he would mail it to me w/ my current registration...he didn’t. I called and left a voicemail last week about it, no response. I got got.

    You the diy type, where you would undertake a rebuild yourself?

    There are plenty of “rebuilders” on Craigslist if you are looking to offload it out here.

    If you want to attempt a rebuild and you have some funds and a few necessary tools, the module swap and rebuild has worked for others with access to the Hybrid Automotive Prolong equipment ;).

    I have it and have helped another member rebuild a pack with the Prolong equipment by replacing 2 modules and he’s back on the road :).

    Just another option (y).
