I was driving on a hot day recently. As I hit the gas in a tight merging situation I had a sudden loss of power. I was able to safely pull over and I had the red triangle warning light, the VSC light, the Check engine light and the yellow exclamation light.

I had previously purchased a techstream dongle and associated disc, but never really got it working. I had the code read on an innova code reader. I know that may not be enough information without techstream, but any thoughts on what the next move troubleshooting would be?

    Welcome to PriusChat!!
Which OS are you installing on, and which part of the installation were you stuck on?
DTC P0A94 has a dozens of related INFs or subcodes (detail codes), knowing the associated 3 digit INF for a given DTC will generally help with diagnosing the issue a bit faster. Techstream is able to offer the freeze frame data, and INFs / subcodes / detailed codes.

Was the scanner you used able to offer up the 'freeze frame' data, which may include the needed INF or subcode?

While waiting for either techstream and or the related INF, were you able to do a search here on Pchat for DTC P0A94, just in case that wasn't possible, let me post some results : https://priuschat.com/search/310269836/?q=p0a94&t=post&o=relevance&g=1&c[node]=3+22+87+68+56+21+49+91+12+54+13+85+14

It's a windows 10 OS. 64bit. I downloaded the software and I think that it wouldn't connect, but it was trying. That was a while ago. I'll try it again today and post my results. Thanks so much for any help anyone has to offer.

Im using an innova code reader and I did attempt to clear the code on my car(perhaps foolishly...) The code came right back, but I don't really know if that makes the freeze frame data useless or not.

The current code is P0A94 and I don't yet have my techstream up so I don't have the 3 digit code. The current Freeze frame data is:

I also had these codes: C1259 and C1310, C0210, C1238. The last 2 were cleared by reseating the right rear wheel sensor.

Go down a couple of threads here the technical discussion forum and there is mention of downloading a virtual machine image that has Techstream installed on it, then installing Oracle virtualbox and running the VM .

Or there is a sticky thread at the top of this forum reviewing several apps and bluetooth OBD2 devices.

Now the 12v battery seems to be totally dead. Could this be a 12v battery issue, or have I just killed it by trying to get techstream working 5 or 6 times.

12v wouldn't cause what you describe in the o/p, but it is always good to start with a healthy one when trying to read codes

Im not getting anywhere with connecting to techstream. When I load the program it seems to be working and then when it tries to connect I get an error that says vim or vm error. Any one have any experience with that. I couldn't get the virtual box to work either.

After much struggling I was able to set up a VirtualBox and get a version of techstream running. Keeping in mind that I've spent no more than ten minutes noodling around in techstream. I've got the P0A94 code with 555 as the additional 3 digit code from the freeze frame and it also says DC to DC converter performance. Can anyone help me with what my next step should be? I'll be back at it tomorrow, anything else I should look up on techstream that would help. Thanks

If you have any tips worth sharing so that others might benefit, please do.
Here is the step-by-step workup for DTC P0A94 with INF 555 : https://share.qclt.com/%E4%B8%B0%E7%94%B0%E6%99%AE%E7%91%9E%E6%96%AF%E5%8E%9F%E5%8E%82%E8%8B%B1%E6%96%87%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8Cpdf%E6%A0%BC%E5%BC%8F/Repair%20Manual/04pruisr/05/21bpm/0a94554.pdf
It would be a good idea to post screen shots of the freeze frame data, that way everyone knows what you're dealing with.

In terms of my experience with the virtualbox, for me the links that were provided didn't simply double click and start working. I don't really know why except I assume it relates to slight differences in operating systems, etc. I was able to go back to the internet and get a slightly newer version of virtualbox as a download from the Oracle sight. When I downloaded it and got it running, it didn't include any of the virtualbox setup that would have been part of that original link, so I had to set up the new operating system in the VB and troubleshoot a few complications that came up. I went back to google and oracle searches to figure out what the issues were. When it seemed to be working I re-imported the techstream from the link above and the first one again didn't work, but I was able to use the second link that was provided to me in a previous post and assemble the software and the various drivers and also figure out how to load them into my new VB. At 9pm last night I figured out the final step which was having the VB recognize the USB device using the correct driver and it finally worked.

If anyone is having trouble going through this and wants to ask specific questions Im happy to try to help with specific answers.
