Hi everyone, I'm looking for some guidance regarding HV battery replacement. Recently, the VSC, check engine, and red triangle popped up on my dash, and I went to have it diagnosed. The mechanic returned the codes P3000, C1259, P1310, and B1421 (which I've heard can just over when the car is in the shade).

My mechanic is recommending a hybrid battery replacement, but I'm unsure if this will be the proper fix as there is no PA080 code. When looking for a reconditioned battery, the company informed me that they're reluctant to proceed as they're uncertain as to whether it will be a guaranteed fix.

Are there any other issues these codes could point toward, maybe an issue with the cooling fan?

For more information, the Prius has just under 170,000 miles, the HV battery has never been replaced, and when driving a fan in the back turns on almost immediately. I just replaced the 12v battery as well. I'd really appreciate any advice!

Just a quick clarification, it's worth noting that a few days after running the codes, the car battery died completely, which was when I replaced the 12v. It now starts up again, but the lights are still on. I wanted to mention this since it's possible one of the codes could have been cleared up by this.

    welcome!
ask your mechanic what code reader he is using, and what the codes mean.

the fan is usually a dead give away. but it's worth opening the battery and checking for corrosion.

i agree with him, your best bet is a $1,600. new battery. if you can't afford, you would have to learn how to rebuild, or risk a professional rebuild.

Since "we" are reviving a dead thread, let me just add this here for future reference.
Not likely, but I would inspect/clean the HV fan, and especially the connector, as corrosion can built up between the male/female bits.

You might also inspect the hv battery ECU and the related harness connector for the same corrosion.

The mechanic that pulled the DTCs (codes) many not have the proper equipment to fully diagnose, as there can be five (5) INF subcodes associated with DTC P3000 :

the Fan in the rear turning on instantly is a dead giveaway you'll need a new battery?
