Nope. Gen 2 had "remote keyless entry with push button start" as standard equipment. That's the normal lock/unlock with the remote fob (which was still optional on some cars back in 2004). The "upgrade" was straight to 3-dr SKS with push button start.

In 2010, they "upgraded" the base entry system from remote keyless entry to 1-dr SKS. 3-dr SKS remains optional. Yes it's annoying but from Toyota's perspective, you're getting basic SKS as standard instead of remote keyless entry.

The 2-second delay is dealer-customizable (you can read the manual for the other optional delay lengths). Of course you can set the SKS to unlock all doors by yourself if you prefer (but some don't because of security)

... and not on US Trim Two. It likely requires full SKS, not just driver's door.

So much for standardisation! Sorry USA. :(

It is actually a vain attempt at differentiation between trim levels.
To get full SKS & a spare tire too, I would have needed to get a Trim 3. The difference in cost was not worth it to me.

Perhaps, but as Mendel pointed out to me earlier, NO UK Prius has the option of a donut spare anymore although mine came with one as standard.

I went from a Gen 2 to a Gen 4 as well, and one of the big reasons we went with the trim 3 was to get the 3 door SKS. It's unfortunate they aren't doing it in the lower trim levels because it is super convenient.

I thought it would be too but that was the on ly interesting feature I saw on Trim 3 vs Trim 2 and the price difference was not worth it to me. Actually, I do not find 1 door SKS too limiting, especially since I have i set to unlock all doors.

Just reading through this again, I'm puzzled on two fronts:

    1. If there's no donut spare, how do you come to have one?
    2. I have no memory of pointing that out to you, or even looking into the subject. I'm sure I did, but my "tape" seems to be getting shorter these days, lol.

Mendel reported in another thread that the specs for all 2017/8 UK Prii were devoid of donut size wheels. My 2916 UK Prius business Edition did come with one as standard, but when I checked Toyota's current UK website it was confirmed that they've discontinued the donuts. Clear as mud? No, ah well..... You'll just have to trust me!

On the Gen II (…sorry, I skipped most of the thread! ) it's configurable (see p.43 Gen II Destruction Manual) ;)

Re: #29 If I replace my car with another Prius in 2019, perhaps I'll remove the spare first an hope they don't notice on the handover!

You could just swap the whole spare wheel for gunk kit, foams, clips and floor panel etc. over between cars, then they are both complete.

I'm a late riser these days and I reckon it's too great a stretch for my fingers to swipe between the 2s and 1s at one end of my tablet to the 9s and 0s at the other.

Sadly, I don't get the new one till they take the old one back and inspect it first.

Possibly get a spare plus packing etc from a wrecking yard. What did EURO-NCAP do with their spare?
