    The spare tyre space is still there, the tyre pump and repair gunk is in its place. Remove the repair kit and install the spare, jack and wheel brace from a base model and you're in business. In an urban environment a repair kit would get the job done so I don't see a need to change the repair kit for a space saver spare in a cab.
    The reason for the lack of a spare is mass (weight), nothing else.

    Everyone used the same car, it had the timing gear in it.
    The car was warmed up from prior runs and orientation runs.
    The course was about 700 metres from gate to gate.
    The rolling start was a 90 degree turn on the end of the course, maybe 30 to 40 metres. I had the car up to speed from a standing start in this distance. Hey, there's a point, the traction control was really good! No power cutout and it was wet!
    The very slow driver only had a learners permit not a full drivers licence.
    The equipment in the car was used to time the run and track the fuel consumption (CO2 emissions) and send the information from a laptop that Graeme was holding, to a command centre with a display for others to watch progress.

    You like my Yukon? I had a bet with Malorn and lost, so I had to have a gas guzzler for an avatar for a month, so I figured a deceptive hybrid monster commuter truck was the way to go.

    OK, so the base model still has the spare. That will be fine as I only intend buying the base model - 60K for a cab is not economically viable in Sydney.

    I thought you were going for a pretty flash cab looking at the i-Tech.
    Yep, base still has a spare because without the solar roof there is no mass issue.

    I plan on having a mass issue after this weekend when the new Prius is launched in Australia and we FINALLY get our new I-tech without a spare!

    That will be rectified as soon as I spend the necessary $300 next week for a temporary spare, jack etc to make it complete and in a condition where my wife and I are confident to drive it anywhere.
    We had a kitchen knife pierce and destroy a near-new tyre on a previous car not far from home in the suburbs a little time ago, and a pressure-pack can of sealant and a compressor will not fix that sort of damage! Nor do roadside assist carry Prius-spec wheels all the time to replace a damaged one by the roadside.

    I could add the score points but there is insufficient information to plot the iso-score, graph lines.

    What you are asking for are parameter lines that map boundaries between different scores. To draw such lines, I would have to derive the formula that was used to calculate the lines. Now ordinarily, this is a trivial task using say a second-order polynomial with two variables, speed and CO{2} (the first approach I would use):
    x - velocity
    y - CO{2}
    z - score

    z = A*(x**2) + B*x + C*(y**2) + D*y + E
    I'll leave solving the coefficients as an academic exercise but note that the general solution would treat the powers as variables. It would be easier to contact the organizers and ask,"What was your formula for calculating the scores?" <grins>

    But plotting the iso-score lines gets a little ... ugly. Hopefully, the score points are good enough. My eyes tell me they weighted CO{2} higher than speed or possibly used just a linear scale for the speed offset instead of least-squares penalty. But the low speed driver brought home how much easing on the speed improves the CO{2} score.

    The score is simply calculated (CO2 X seconds), I would have thought that would be a diagonal line from top left to bottom right sort of thing? Maybe I'm over simplifying this thing?

    I have also given serious consideration as to whether to put my own spare wheel in the i-Tech when I get it. I think I will probably decide not to do it on the basis that if the repair kit doesn't work - then what the hell, I will just drive the mother on the flat tyre to the closest tyre shop - how bad could it get, one wrecked wheel? If in the country though, that worries me - a tow truck out there - impossible.

    What would you do Pat Sparks?

    The x-axis is velocity so we have:
    v = distance/time(hr)
    time(hr) = distance/velocity

    score = CO{2}*time(sec)
    score / CO{2} = time(sec)
    score / (CO{2}*3600) = time(hr)

    score / (CO{2}*3600) = distance/velocity
    score = (CO{2}*3600*distance) / velocity
    There is enough information to plot the curves. I'll have to hack it up later tonight.
