    Yes, that might be correct, but similar thinking applies mostly for BAU scenario only.
    Throw a dose of reality into the picture such as yet another war/embargo in the Gulf, gasoline gov. coupons and what have you or even just plain and simple ongoing recession for years but with year on year growing inflation + increasing costs for formely abundant energy..

    The increased security thanks to less freq. stops at gas stations is priceless, the 1970s were just a warmup.. Not to mention the potential of taping into small home renewables to charge it.

    Enginer has an online ROI calculator similar to this. It is at http://enginer.us/products/calculator.php

    Please note that the Enginer kit with solar panel option is qualified for 30% Federal tax credit. Also in some state such as Colorado, there is 75% state tax REBATE. That could significantly reduce the ROI.

    BTW, when people buy SUV with $20,000 premium over Prius, it not only can't recupe the cost, it costs them a fortune in gasline over the life of the vehicle. It is negative ROI. ouch!
