I purchased from Crutchfield and installed a Pioneer AVH4400 NEX (LOVE THE HEAD UNIT) with a RadioPro 4 RP4.2-TY11 interface for Steering wheel controls (SWC) in a 2008 Prius Level 2 with smart key. NO Nav, NO JBL.

I replaced the speakers with a direct fit OEM style NO modifications PowerBass OE652-TY 6.5" 120W 2-Way OE Series Coaxial Speaker System. SOUNDS GREAT 5 Stars. If you replace tweeters you have to mod. but I left the factory tweeters, I do not think you can wear out a tweeter but maybe someone will correct me.

The problem even Crutchfield cannot figure out is I have no steering wheel controls for the radio. The lights on the RadioPro box blink when you push the SWC buttons but no response from head unit. We have checked all the wiring and all the connections are in the right holes.

At this point they are sending all new stuff with a SWC unit made Axxess ASWC-1 which I'm told folks have FAR better luck with. I'm also posting hoping to share upgrade ideas with other folks wanting to upgrade their sound system in the Prius and maybe figure this problem out.

    Any ideas?

I've seeing the same thing. 2007 Prius v5 with Nav and JBL after installing Pioneer AVH-4400NEX and RadioPro 4 RP4.2-TY11. The RadioPro 4 is running a newer firmware than PAC has on their website and the Pioneer is updated to the newest firmware 1.01. The RadioPro 4 is receiving the inputs from the steering wheel, but either not passing them onto the Pioneer or the Pioneer headunit is registering them.

I ended up installing the Axxess ASWC-1 and steering wheel controls are working great, but I believe you need an
AXXESS AX-TYAMP1-SWC they state it covers steering wheel and the amp in one box.

    UPDATE 12/20/2018
I have 2008 Prius NO JBL, NO Nav but I do have smart key and factory AUX.
This is the setup I ended up with Pioneer AVH4400 NEX, Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Interface, I ordered and installed the Toyota factory Bluetooth Steering wheel buttons for the right side Part number 84244-470010. No wiring needed unplug the old buttons, plug it into the new one, it works.

The Axxess was manually programmed and I ended up with all the Bluetooth buttons on the right side working. Yes the Speak button can be used on Siri for voice calls or directions or just general questions "what is the temperature outside". The only button that does not do anything is the Map button since I did not have factory navigation. The Info button does work for the MFD info screens. The factory AUX does not work.

The setup sounds great very loud no distortion I think I could break the windows with no AMP sort of HA HA.

I would contact Crutchfield 1 (800) 955-9091 tell them what you are trying to accomplish. They will help you pick the right equipment for your head unit and help you set it up. I assume you mean android software.

Thanks for posting your experiences. I’ve been considering this same head unit in my 2004 (with JBL/Navigation). Auto Engineer - did you ever get your issues worked out?

I currently have a DICE Bluetooth adapter which is a little flakey (does not work at all on power up about 5-10% of the time, have to cycle Bluetooth on the iPhone another 10% of the time to get audio output through the car rather than phone speakers in times).

Been considering getting a Prime, but wow... still using Entune and no CarPlay/Android Auto support? Between that (smallish item) and potentially wanting to go full EV, I think I’ll see about getting a couple more years out of the 04.

Good news. I was able to get the system fully functional today. To recap, everything was working except for the steering wheel controls (SWC). I troubleshot everything (reprogramming, wiring, all settings) before contacting PAC. They were responsive within 24 hours via email, but I had a hard time getting ahold of them via phone. Based on my tests, the RadioPro device was receiving the SWC input, but it wasn't sending the appropriate signal to the Pioneer headunit.

After pulling out the stereo several times to test and troubleshoot, I decided to replace the RadioPro 4. PAC (the manufacturer) stated that it was probably easier to return the device and purchase a new one then have them send one to me directly, which was a bit annoying.

I purchased a new one, plugged it in and it works! So it appears they have some hardware QC issues, as both myself and the OP had the same issue.

However, with the replacement RadioPro 4, I can confirm there are no issues with the RadioPro 4 RP4.2-TY11, the Pioneer AVH-4400NEX, and a 2007 Prius with JBL and Nav (Nav no longer used with Android Auto)

Just confirming that you’re saying you do not use the navigation, rather than “it no longer works”?

While I use nav on my phone 90% of the time, I sometimes travel in areas with limited coverage and am hoping to still be able to use the built-in nav at times.

Hi OP, so you needed the factory bluetooth buttons to make the system work 100%?
I'm asking because I'm looking up upgrade the prius headunit with wireless carplay.
