The EVSE will work, but the manual recommends always unplugging it from the car before unplugging from the wall. This is more to protect the wall outlet, I think. When you press the button on the EVSE handle, that stops the charge current by opening a relay designed to operate under load, which reduces arcing when you unplug from the wall. I don't know how long a consumer duty timer would hold up under that kind of use. But it shouldn't hurt anything expensive to try it.

I wasn't surprised. I did the same experiment many months ago and it confirmed my suspicion that the brake pump pulls quite a bit of energy from the battery. Also, that 12.99 was partly surface charge. If you had kept a meter on the battery after the pump stopped, you would most likely have seen the battery voltage slowly climb, but probably not quite back to 12.99. Same thing happens to the HV battery when you're doing the discharge with the Prolong system and remove the load to begin charging. That voltage really bounces.

i would have to try it while home before leaving it alone for 10 weeks.

sounds like more trouble than it's worth though

if my battery survives this year, but reads below 12.4 when we get home, i'll get a maintainer next year.

lead acid likes to be topped up, no?

our generator 12v has some kind of automatic float charger. it is 13 years old and shows no sign of aging, judging from the cranking sound on test days

Yeah I agree. We had disconnected the charger, driven the car the day previously, and it sat overnight without charger. But I do have it on the charger a lot, almost without fail commencing mornings when the car won't be used, and left on until it is.

Also, the amount of voltage drop with a bit of load application is somewhat indicative of battery health? I haven't tested with the Solar BA5 in a while: it has to be directly to the posts, so a bit more hassle.

Got my quarterly email reminder from Clore, to recharge my jumppack. Then thought to plug in the OEM battery, still have it around. Maybe I need an intervention...

LOL! I have a friend who's a psychologist. It would be a long drive for your appointments, though. :D

Is it kept in the shrine:whistle:?

If it makes you feel any better I have 2 original water pumps in my garage:cool:.

They’ll eventually leave, but are good show and tell pieces currently (y).

still surface charge after 12+ hours since driving?
