To save on fuel cost cost which keeps more money in my pocket. It's also nice to not pollute as much.

I picked one, and here's why.

First, my production of CO2 from driving is already really low. Making a big change to zero there will have little impact.

However, in the US, our consumption of oil isn't all that far from being where we don't have to import from countries that hate us. Any little reduction in the consumption of oil can get us closer to the end of funding those awful people with our money.

While I do want a quiet, reliable car, a regular Gen 4 or even keeping my Gen 2 would suffice for that, and I've never found going to a gas station to be much of a bother, especially in a Prius. None of the BEV cars have anywhere close to enough range for my uses, given the existing charging infrastructure, so I never seriously considered one of those, and I don't plan to until batteries are 5x better or charging infrastructure is 10x-100x better.

HOV lane access. #3. Purchase price with federal and state tax credit and rebate as compared to the regular Prius. Not so keen on the loss of cargo space, 4 vs. 5 seats, no trailer hitch currently available, price of gasoline makes plugging in more expensive than running on gasoline (although that may change (future proofing)).

Now that we have more forum participants and owners, let's see if we can get some more responses.

Since I live in coal country, EVs are a mixed bag for me:

    • - Some 10% worse CO2 emissions than a regular Prius
    • - Much, much worse Nox and Sox emissions than a regular Prius
    • + No oil consumption
    • + The final kick I need to put up PV
My ideal behaviour from a green POV would be to put up PV and keep driving the high MPG ICE cars I own but that has not happened. And the truth is, I *like* EVs.

In my current PIP I get gas only about once every 3-4 months (except for maybe one long trip each summer)
In a prime I might go 5 or 6 months.
Since my other car is a Leaf I have to think about what to do when I fill up. Oops, forgot to open the gas cover again before I got out of the car...

Hey.. I pick prime because it's cheaper and better than my 2014 prius after 4500fed +1500 California rebate.
