POLL: What's your sexuality?

It was 1977 when I first got to work with a gay man in our system programming group. He was technically competent but given a job handling operating system builds . . . kinda 'scud work'. But I didn't really care for him in the group because he never shot bugs, wrote production code, or seemed focus on our core business. He just handle a somewhat mechanical task, making sure we could build the OS.

A year later, my wife asked why I didn't care for gays in part because she has a gay son. And thinking of this gay man, I told her:

They seem to be distracted by sex too often. By the same token, I don't care for a 'rake' (a hetrosexual version) be they male or female and I've been in the company of both.

When I am at work, I want our focus to be on our tasks, the work at hand, and anything that takes attention away from our common goals hurts not only that individual's productivity but to the extent they distract others, the group concentration.

That remains my point of view today. An obsession with sex at work, regardless of how it is expressed, is destructive to what should be our primary focus, our work and the common goals of our labors. Now after hours, heck, as soon as each reaches their cars, I don't care what they do as long as it "doesn't frighten the horses."

Now I understand the goal of "Fred's" and certainly this poll and others . . . well there has to be a 'water cooler' or some place for folks to blow off steam. But I want to make it clear, I'm here for the technology first.

Sex, politics, and religion, while providing a lot of opportunities for jokes and pullin' someone's leg . . . it isn't something I'm really here to resolve. After all, we're not a political, prayer, dating service although a Unitarian, it may seem confusing, I'll quote scripture at'ca if you get too silly.
