Possibility of Repair of mg2 stator winding

    All electric motors are insulated with varnish to my knowledge. The copper wire is coated with varnish before it is wound into the stator, and then the entire motor is heated and dipped in a varnish tank. Spray on, while ok, is not as good as a dip. However, you would likely need about 10 gallons of the special varnish to dip the MG2 stator. Another method is to heat the stator and pump varnish over the windings for a few minutes. That's the way we did large motors (up to 150 hp) at a small motor and pump shop I worked at while in college. Our tank was only about 600 mm wide and 850 mm inches long. After the dip, the motor is allowed to hang overnight so the varnish will drip off.You have to grind the varnish off the inside of the stator so that the rotor will fit. The varnish gets about 6 to 8 mm thick.

    Maybe years ago but modern motors use epoxied resin that’s used in a VPI system. As far as a Prius mg goes applying varnish with a paintbrush is useless. It wont stop a blowout and at the very least it may trap heat and exacerbate a blowout. Whatever was used was not designed to see the extreme heat it will see

    Well, why don't you ask what was used rather than ASSume that the diy guy doesn't know what he's doing?
