I take it this delay of a couple of weeks has some monumental significance I am unaware of. Will the world end in the meantime ?

Who knows ... it may be only 4 or 5 days ... and the nit-picky gets worse. Nissan MAY just put one at each dealership to technically say "they were delivered in December". That sounds so GM-ish ... and who wants to wear THAT label.

Probably at least another year before we get ours here in Oklahoma.

Compared to the increasingly painful Boeing 787 delays, this seems like nothing.

I got an email from Nissan. I am sure everyone on the reservation list got the same email. It said that cars would be delivered between 4 and 7 months after the order date. The first orders were taken on the last day of August, and limited numbers of people were given the opportunity to order in following months.

The email also said that my delivery timing WAS NOT CHANGED. It would appear that this is a falsehood. Perhaps they will say that my delivery timing has not changed because my delivery timing has not yet been set. But it's clear that planned delivery dates have been significantly revised.

But if the guy working on repairing my electric Porsche (a major job, as the original conversion was effed up royally) gets it done before my Leaf arrives, I may well decide to walk away from the Leaf. My dealer told me I am under no obligation to buy it, and even requested that I place the order even if I have no intention of buying it, since that would give him a car to sell.

Oh, and the announcement that there will be no dealer demo cars because people can test-drive the car at one of their preview events: I'd have had to travel all the way to Seattle to attend that event, so that's worthless to me.

Either Nissan is having serious last-minute engineering issues with design or production of the cars, or else they have decided to renege on their promises in order to reap the additional profit of selling the cars promised to the U.S. in Japan.

Nissan has not been handling this well. The entire roll-out has been a fiasco, from serious bugs in the ordering process, to selecting a dishonest company to install EVSEs, to these delays.

Today, I saw my first VOLT driving around in suburban Ballamer.

It looks like GM is winning the race to get their gas enhanced electric
    car on the street.

Oops, no, isn't it really really a overpriced, overly complicated hybrid?

Given Nissans scheduled, and currently delayed without explanations
roll-out for the LEAF, maybe we'll see one around here in late 2011. :(

GM-1, Nissan-0 in Tier 2 and the hinterlands beyond.

just an update. it would appear that the delivery of "real" Leafs may start as early as next week. we have had our 6 publicity deliveries for each area of the EV Highway Project out of the way so most are guessing its now time for the "regular" people.

inside sources state that this week a ship docked at Long Beach with 52 additional Leafs.

that is the source. but many Leaf buyers have already been contacted by their dealers to expect to pick up their Leafs at various intervals over the next two weeks. the closer to San Diego, the lesser the interval.

so we have San Diego area, Jan 3rd or so.
Phoenix, San Fran, around the 11th
Portland/Seattle anywhere from the 14th to the 21st.

now with all this. previously we had our Dashboard giving us a delivery estimate. mine said "week of Jan 19th". it is now saying pending. but the Dashboard has gone thru many many hiccups and everytime the Dashboard gets updated (it has several categories and they have been initialized one at a time) it becomes non-functional for a short period of time which usually signifies another step in the purchase process.

the last 3 times the Dashboard hiccuped and came back to life, we were provided with vehicle VIN, Carwings then loan applications.

gotta say; what else is left but the call to COME ON DOWN AND GET YOUR LEAF!!"

    Dave,

When you get your LEAF, I hope you'll keep us informed of your
    Life with the LEAF.

I'm very interested in the LEAF, and as can you tell from my
participation on MyNissanLEAF.com, I am willing/able to wait until it
is in the showrooms out here in the Tier 2 states and beyond... late
2012-ish I suspect. (Gotta' say, they are a frenzied bunch over
    there.)

Would that it were sooner... Life goes on, and other EVs are
prepping for roll-out just over the horizon. We'll see what happens.

let me repeat what i have said many many times. when i get my Leaf, "a thousands rolls of duct tape could not shut me up"

    **edit**
a rumor is now circulating that someone will be picking up their Leaf either today or tomorrow. this will be the first true consumer delivery...squeaking in a 2010 delivery!!
