These haven't happened in a long while, but my elderly mom is in Sacramento area so if you wanted to help organize something once we're further away from Covid, it'd be fun to hang out with hybrid car and electric car nerds periodically.

I'm down the road a bit in Fairfield, but have hosted these in the past:).

Once we get out of COVID, we'll probably return to some regularly scheduled occurrences ;).

    Stay tuned(y).

I'm interested. 2020 Prius Prime. I'm in Pittsburg, CA. I can bring two floor jacks, 4 jack stands, small compressor and lots of extra other assorted mechanic and construction related tools and materials.

Besides maintenance, I'm planning to add tow hitch and Flat Four trailer light connector, maybe lift-kit Priusoffroad - Toyota Prius, Prius, Lift | Priusoffroad, and plywood "furniture" to help make it a micro-camper with at least one full length sleeper bunk, as well as additional "desk space" for front passenger ( or rear passenger) space to turn it into mobile office.
I did the Mobile Office thing with my old Saab 900 and Ford Escort and was able to work on two PC screens, full size keyboard, printer, etc, with just a couple of (IMHO) well designed simple pieces of plywood that sat on various points across front passenger seat area. (hope to have something to post pics of soon).

Might be able to host, but only got one open space inside house attached garage (two spaces but tight parking room only, one space nice kitty-corner working room). I should be able to guarantee two parking spaces out front (I'd hold with my other cars) and the neighborhood is nice and safe with only a few resident fitness and dog walkers. AutoZone on Bailey about 4mins away. Short driveway to garage has pretty good slope so I don't like to jack up cars for safety, but maybe I'm being over cautious.

Also check my former posts. Got crazy ideas about finding a lightly rear-ender damaged but "totaled" late model Prius and converting into basic Utility Body "Ute" or "Panel Van". Great minds think (sorta) alike. Most of the text is in the "imagines" and is in Japanese so online translators don't help. relaxcabin | キャンピングカーのことならかーいんてりあ高橋

I'm not that concerned with Covid (I'd be about 1000X more concerned about setting foot inside a grocery store, if I was concerned) for auto maintenance. Its basically outside or very well ventilated. My location in particular is always windy.

Lol... "not that concerned about Covid" ?!? That's definitely the kind of meet up sponsor not worth the risk of attending.

-- I'm liking that relaxcabin, but I'm EXTREMELY concerned about Covid (plus my Prius is actually dead at the moment XD) so we'll all need to just wait and see. How were you thinking about procuring/making that shell for the Prius? Have you seen any in CA?

I’m more concerned about the flu numbers and deaths not being reported this entire year :sneaky:

Flu numbers were never calculated month to month in real time, it's an annual calculation that happens next year for this year and uses statistical modeling to turn lots of different data inputs into an accurate measure. But it does not, nor has it ever, counted individual cases but statistical trends.

Of course after what we've been through this year there's not much that will stay the same in terms of methodology... The epidemiological paradigm shift of 2020 is unprecedented and there will be a thorough review of how to do these numbers differently/more accurately when we're finally able to be in 2021 and looking back on 2020.

Of course if you want to imply there's a vast deep state agenda to create false causes of death for the ~3 million people who died in the US in 2020, you're gonna have a lot more problems at life in general than you'll ever be willing to face up to no matter how in your face it gets.

I suspect the easiest way to do this is too buy an old plastic or fiberglass mini camper trailer and mount that shape on the back of the car.

I’m in the sac area and would be down to meet when it’s safe to do so. I’ve got some
Maintenance items to get done but it’ll be a while before I feel safe with strangers and Covid.

I'll be there too. I need to get the EGR cooler and stuff cleaned. I can't help contribute much with toolings, but I can get some snacks and help people with basic maintenance like oil change, oil filter change, trans fluid change, taking out the windshield wiper motor, the intake manifold, etc.. basically the things I've done in the past only.

I'd be happy to pay someone for my EGR circuit cleaning when the time comes. I can bring a mechanic tool set, stands, a jack, electric pressure washer, and a bunch of other misc tools too.

I'll likely be able to host a few people to my in laws house. They have a 6 car garage shop/barn. I only have a 3 car garage :(. Located in Elk Grove

Due to cat theft apparently being on the rise again (glad I'm not in SF), I'm thinking of getting the CatSecurity Shield:
    Cat Security™ 2010 - 2015 Prius,excludes Prius C and V

But I'm also checking back in with the forum to see what the latest is from the hive mind on cat protection first and how effective these various deterrents have been for peeps. The other deterrents each seemed to have major shortcomings, including the one I was quite keen on for a while (the Cat Clamp).

Re: Eventual Meetups again, given COVID, it's definitely looking like there's light at the end of this tunnel sometime this calendar year. Exactly when will depend on whenever we get past both the bulk of people getting vaccinated + some amount of time to see how low the case rates get (+ individual level of comfort, obviously).

Interestingly, for the very first time, it seems like I actually need to do maintenance because of elapsed time (17 mo since I last changed oil) and not due to mileage. (Uh, thanks, COVID!)

Fortunately Gen3 aren't the prime targets for cat theft. It's way more hassle/time to steal a Gen3 than a Gen2.

With Gen2 you can do it in less than 60 seconds. But in general rather than a cat cover a motion detecting alarm for Gen3 will also be an effective deterrent.

Give me a break... Do you really think people dumb enough to jack cars up in the middle of the night and firing up a saw and hoping to not get caught are looking to online forums for advice? I mean maybe these mouth breathers are gonna watch some you tube videos, but in general Gen3 cat thefts often lead to the thief giving up because it's more difficult. Just look at all the muffler shops posting videos of repairing attempted thefts of Gen3 vs successful thefts of Gen2. Your comment is silly.

The mods here are always deleting posts and photos that shows or describe where and how the cats are cut. Criminals preplan to get in and out ASAP w/the use of free resources, let the moderator here know they’re “silly” also.

Are there such motion detection alarms for the vehicle? What products are there and where do they mount on the car?

I don't know what the moderator policy is re: this, but knowing where thieves cut means knowing which areas are best to protect. I personally prefer freedom of information to security by obscurity.
