Well, my 16-year-old daughter mistook the gas pedal for the brake and slammed into a brick wall in our 2016. At first, everything seemed OK, but a few days later the pre-collision system unavailable message came up. I also believe the automatic cruise control will not work. If I’m not mistaken, the problem is with the sensor behind the Toyota emblem at the front. I assume replacement cost will be $600-1200. Is this something I could possibly change myself, even if I need to get someone else to recalibrate it? Is buying a used one a bad idea? Is it that sensitive that it should fail after being hit?
I'd search for one @ the wrecker/junkyard, side or rear impact car. IMHO Yes, cruise control won't work - car can't judge distance from car in front until this is repaired. Did you check for loose wires and connectors?
Toyota uses the same sensor for the corrola. Look up the part number then do an ebay search. They are super easy to replace and i have seen them for as low as $200.
