Any tips on how to do this, or did your OCC come with this?

You buy one with it. It is permanent and can be cleaned.

Any guess as to whether those 5k oil changes were synthetic (like, changes at a dealer vs jiffy lube)?

I just pulled the scrubber (supplied with the Amazon Ruien brand oil catch can) out of my catch can last night. I've only driven the car something around 500 miles, but there was just a very small amount (maybe 6 drops) of what appears to be dirty water in the bottom of the catch can.

I will run without the scrubber until I can find one I am confident in.

Maybe just bunch up some bare copper ground wire.

I've got a bunch of aluminum (I think...it's not shown any sign of corrosion in years) baling wire that I might try.

Edit: Hmm...seems it's more likely galvanized soft steel. I'm guessing that would be OK as it wouldn't get hot enough for the galvanizing to transform, right?

The last thing you want is some loose metal to find its way into the intake manifold and then the cylinders.

Dealership changed oil on all of them from new. I would assume synthetic 0w-20 per spec not sure on brand.

After a week and only about 100 miles of driving, my OCC without any filtration material or real baffle collected about a teaspoon of urine.

Of course it's condensation, with an essence of gasoline. It's been pretty humid and cool here, and these have all been low speed short trips, so perhaps optimal for a filterless OCC, but this is promising to me, with regard to how well the cheap amazon Ruein OCC works without SSS.
