I looked at your calculations. I bought the identical car here in CA this weekend. Your pricing was $ 3059.00 less than mine. Take off $1000 for shipping and your deal was $2059 better than mine. You got a great deal. Congratulations.

You don't have to pay sales tax on a car in California?

I don't think you can ignore the shipping costs. And yes, I am crazy jealous that you paid $2k less than me.

Sales tax should have been collected by the selling dealer in NY, but if not, it will be when he registers at CA DMV. Hopefully the rebates will come through too - some buyers are having difficulty getting them.

You should get your dealer to collect the sales tax if you want it rolled into your loan amount. Otherwise if you pay it when registering in CA you must pay cash.

Leased a 2013 base PiP from Toyota of Manhattan.

Negotiated sale price of $30,775 not including $5300 Toyota rebate. Residual of $16,960 for 3 year lease, 15,000 miles/year. Paid $572 at dealer, monthly payment of approx. $320 with all taxes and fees rolled in, except $350 disposition fee.

You do. Which is still a good deal since the sale price on these cars is lower than locally too. But as per the instructions earlier in the thread, we're not comparing sales taxes because they vary by location.

Thought I'd add a few more details.

The dealer did collect the California sales tax and put it into the loan. I live in Long Beach, Ca where the sales tax is a high 9% (thanks to voters who thought it was a great idea to increase taxes on themselves).

So 9% of the sales price was $2,813.

Shipping cost $1,150. I used Montway Auto Transport.

So with tax, rebates, and shipping, my total cost was $26,659.50.

The dealer actually went to bat for me. I am not able to pick it up until tomorrow (already signed and made deposit) but the dealer made sure to get the sale put through on May 31st since the New Jersey discount was going from $4650 to $3000 in June.

Does anyone know if any dealers are still offering the 6500 (2012) or 4750 (2013) plug in rebates anymore?

I know NJ is back down to $3000 from the $4650 last month.

And I believe the 6500 on 2012's expired, but some dealers appear to still be honoring it (or just want to get rid of their 2012's).

I'm in CA, buying a 2012 plug-in advanced from a dealer in NJ for $9000 off MSRP (selling price of $31,585 from $40,585). Net cost of $28,585 after the federal and California rebates (-$4000) and cost of shipping (+$1000)

$28.5k for advance is a really good deal. The $1,500 CA rebate more than cover the shipping cost.

I purchased mine last month at a dealer in NYC for $30,999 for an Advanced. The car being discounted is better than a rebate since you are paying less in taxes. If it was a rebate of $6500 you would pay tax on that $6500. Dealer fee is less also...$75 opposed to $300. I think they have a Winter Gray left. Shipping was $1,200 door to door from NY to SoCal. Let me know if you need dealer info and contact.

My price after Federal and CA rebate is $26,999 + tax and shipping.
