I will revise my opinion of the amount of Trunk Space. I had a similar problem with the first plug-in, then I folded the back seats down and doubled the amount of room. That was while carrying a doughnut spare.
With the full size spare I have now, I basically did the same. Now I have a good size space for grocery bags.
I realize that not everybody can do this with a family, but if your kids are gone it's a viable option.

i've been waiting for this thread. it's interesting how most of the reviews gloss over this problem.
is it because there is no competition?

i like my back seat for a number of reasons. i may eventually wind up with a prime, but if i do, it will be because it's the lesser of all evils, not because it's the best of both worlds.

I think very often the reviewers have their own criteria and agenda and don't always see things from the family perspective.

For me it's the best of both Worlds.

It's because square feet are more important than cubic feet.

In other words, open deck space is more useful than the few inches of volume near the glass.

i understand what you're saying, but disagree. the reviewers aren't putting anything back there, so they don't care. they figure that is something that doesn't need to be reviewed, because you can make your own comparison.
and also, because there is no competition.
i also disagree that square feet are more important than cubic feet. even though cubic feet aren't easy to compare, usable height width and depth are important, to me anyway.

It's been very uncommon for me to pile stuff up against the window anyway, for two reasons. First, it blocks my view out the back. Second, things tend to shift and fall and either break or break something else.

It's much more common for me to use every square inch of floor space.

I tend to be ultra-conservative and carry much more than the average person, i.e.: A spare tire, jack and related tools, Electric jack...so I don't have to use Toyotas Crap mechanical jack, large cushion when resting or waiting, rain jacket, umbrellas, emergency starting battery 8X4X1 inches. 1st Aid kit ...had it since 1963... never needed, tire repair kit, small tool box, multi-meter. Latest addition: 4 collapsablle baskets for groceries, no more free bags. I don't like it, but I'll live with it. What I really hate is plastic bags, brown paper bags are biodegradable? Iv wandered off subject. END

i load up my hatch often enough that it's a concern. i can 'make do' with anything, but i don't have to like it.
can you fit two sets of clubs in there?

Give me a 7 wood, a 9 iron, and a putter. That is all I need.

i think that's all that kim jong il uses. maybe not the 9 iron or the putter, since he gets 18 holes in one.

Am I reading this right? You put a spare tire in your prime? If so does it shift around much? How much does it impact your fuel economy? Any pics? And finally, where can you buy a spare?

I have owned a Prius of one type or another since 2005 and have never had to use the spare for anything. Some of you must be on really bad roads.

I've been driving for 30 years and I've never had to use a spare tire in any of my cars.
