    ========================================================

Brad, I searched and will again for that video. Really did.

Anyone know where to find the vid of a guy in a rascal scooter explaining the hybrid battery? It's an hr long and really good and well done.

    Would help here, a lot.

Here's the one for the 2017 battery.

That's it, Jerry! Thanks so much!

Brad, invest the time, kick back with a cup 'o something and watch this. It's really great and helps a lot. Had I seen this before buying a new battery for the last car. I would not have bought a new battery in the last car

Thanks again Jerry. I wanted to find it for my own stuff as well.

finally got to a local shop and replaced that one module and he tried to balance it by discharging and charging while in the car putting to reverse gear on break and some other tricks while looking at his phone software. He said too many modules showing lower voltage and adding this one makes it worse. So I have to replace it with a reconditioned one for 1500 when the other cells start degrading. 30$ module and 70$ labor = 100$ I hopefully will be driving around until I leave.

That's not going to do anything. The car's computer will not let him completely charge even one cell, much less all of them.

Not to mention the cells are connected in series so the charge/discharge current in one is the same in all. That's never going to correct an imbalance.

    Not exactly.
Although the current is the same, a charge level above the Prius limit of 80% for an extended period of time can reduce a voltage imbalance.
This, along with smart deep discharging is the basis for the Prolong gird charger & reconditioning system manufactured by @jeff652 here from Hybrid Automotive.

So if I select reverse, rotor lock MG2, and let MG1 generate I can reasonably expect to correct voltage imbalances by pumping the same current through all the cells, the capacity of which varies or else I wouldn't have the imbalance in the first place?

True, and a good clarification. I was assuming that @taxibuddy meant charging as the shop was doing rather than with a Prolong.

Not a chance. When the cell with the highest charge hits 80%, the car will stop charging. The ones lagging will never be able to catch up. You must use an external charger to force feed them.

No. The Prius ECUs limit charge of the pack to between 20% and 80% of capacity.

Rebalancing involves charging & discharging outside those limits without reverse charging any modules.

that should be your strategy then, finding a product and company that can get you through for a reasonable price.

It has been few days. driving the car with no warnings. when the shop guys tested the fully drained voltage it was showing 7.10 to 7.30 range
All the middle cells were showing 7.10-7.20 range and this one module showed 6.9 and he replaced it with a one he picked from another car showing 7.50. He said this 7.50 one is a major drag for other cells. I don't get what he said...He gave 6 months warranty for the $100 bill. Now what could I do to get this car running for another one year? driving habits? No major hills? No sudden acceleration? etc...

Just so you know this car cost me 40000 us$ with 36k miles on it recondition from Japan in 2016. Now the Prius is $50,000 here in Sri Lanka. Here buying a car is a major investment prices going up every year not considering the currency downgrade.

Without properly testing & balancing the pack it is basically blind luck when another module will fail.
