    Hello,

I just bought a used Prius 2004 with 180000 miles and the owner said that the battery couldn't hold charge so he replaced it. After the battery i tried opening the car with the remote key but nothing, i changed the battery of the remote key too but still didn't work. Help.

Did the remote ever work in your possession?

Right before i buy it, with the old battery the remote worked fine. We changed battery and then the remote stopped working.

Try to reset the car again, disconnect the 12v battery negative and reconnect

    Do you have a spare?

I can't reset it right now i'll do it when i get home.
I do have a master key to open and operate the car. Is it possible to buy a remote and if yes how much does it cost?
Thank you for your time btw.

Do you have a Smart Key.
ie, you don't have to put the fob in the slot to start the car.

If so, is there a chance you depressed the "KEY" button by the driver's left knee?
When this button is depressed it disables the remote fob function.
The button must be "popped out" in order to allow the remote function to be enabled.

Also, it is always good to independently verify the voltage of a keyfob battery, whether new or old.
I have seen supposedly new batteries be dead even when they just came out of an unsealed package.

    Ok, thanks for the info.
The fob has to go in the slot for the car to start.
I tried looking for that button i can't find anything.
I confirmed that the battery is working.
Is it possible to buy a new wireless key? Maybe the wireless key gets defaulted when they battery changes and i have to program it, although i do not know how.

    congrats and welcome!

yes, but it's complicated. you can spend hundreds at the dealer, less at a qualified locksmith, or $100. or so on ebay for a blank fob and something called the 'chicken dance'.
