Prius 2006 Jumpstart

    Hello!

    I have a pre-owned 2006 prius that ran smooth all these years. In Sept 2020, after a month of not using the car, when my wife started the car, the triangle of death popped up and the car never started. 15mins later I tried to start the car but no use and had little luck jumping from under the hood. So finally I connected the jumpstart to the 12v battery and got the car to jump start.

    Because of the constant starting issue we started using the minivan. But I'm at a point where I need the prius to get to work. Also I let the car stand for about 1 week and checked the voltage of the 12v battery using a multi-meter, the reading shows 0V.

    Any idea if there is a problem with the 12v battery or the hybrid? And what can I do to get this fixed.

    Appreciate any feedback.

    most vehicles need a starter battery (12v). yours is dead, so in effect, it does not have one. you will need to buy one, unless you know someone willing to give you one.

    if it were the hybrid battery, the jump start would not have worked.

    If you actually measured the 12 V on the battery posts themselves, then the answer should be pretty obvious: The 12 V battery has failed.

    IF.....you made that measurement at the "jump points" or any point other than the actual battery posts, then there could be a loose or corroded connection.

    Odds are great that your battery (12 V) is bad.

    I changed the 12v battery and the car powers up with the press of a button.

    Life is BAU. Thank you guys, appreciate your advice!
