    Hello,

This is the (only) one light that's almost always ON on dash board. It looks like vehicle is driving ok (with this).
(Recently battery in the back side trunk was replaced with new one). DTC code on MFD reads XM- NRES (in red)
Can some knowledgeable suggest to turn this (VSC) off please?

    Thanks!

Welcome. You'll want to find out why it's on and fix the problem before resetting it. Several things can trigger a light like that. Plug a Prius literate code reader into the OBD II port and find out why it's on. Proceed from there. (We have about eleven million threads on reading DTC codes here, so I won't try to summarize them.)

Not all eleven million of those threads mention how you can read the VSC codes with no special scan tool, just a wire and some counting of light blinks.

Only about three million of them mention that, but if you find those, it might save you some fuss.

The MFD can only show codes for the audio network and MFD itself- it cannot pull codes for any of the regular systems on the car (ABS, engine, hybrid system, high voltage battery, etc).

A few systems can show some codes by blinking the appropriate warning light when you jumper two of the correct pins on the OBD2 connector. The 2 digit code can be "translated" to a 5 digit alphanumeric code by looking it up in the service manual. Use the search function on this site for "flash codes".

Another option is to get a scan tool to plug into the OBD2 connector and check the car's ecu's (electronic control units) for codes. Very few can properly check all of the 15+ ecu's on a Gen2 prius. Most can only communicate with a few ecu's and might report "no codes found" when in fact there are.

So you can: 1 - bring your car to a shop that has a "prius compatible" scantool & pay them to diagnose your car. 2 - buy your own scantool and get codes yourself.

There are many threads about how to get Techstream, Toyota's pc based diagnostic system. Or you can look at the sticky thread at the top of the Gen2 Technical discussion forum. It reviews several apps (and OBD2 bluetooth connectors) for smartphones that can scan Prius systems.

That'll turn off the VSC light for some brief or lengthy period of time, and ensure that throughout that period of time, you'll be in the dark about why it was on.

    Thanks for suggestions. They worked.

Sequence of Steps I took up:

    1. Disconnected 12V battery for half day and reconnected again, the lone VSC light re appeared
    2. Tried to short connect CG and TS terminals on ODB2 connector, -played around here with couple of different sequences like pressing break and gas pedal and so on l- it didn't work, VSC light reappeared each time
    3. With a different scanner it showed C1210 and C1234 errors !!. Upon clicking button to clear messages, C1210 got erased out but C1234 remained there (Description - C1210: Zero point Yaw sensor calibration Undone; C1234: Fault in Yaw Rate Sensor). Got Yaw Rate sensor replaced with new one, So far so good - light hasn't come back again (after 10 miles or so).
For Yaw Rate sensor part number, refer attached pic.

Congrats on the repair. And thank you for updating your post!

Five years from now we won't have someone asking "Hey, I've got the EXACT same problem, what was the fix? "

I should just reiterate here that code reading and clearing use the CG and TC terminals.

TS is used in certain other operations, but they are more specialized. Generally, you don't touch TS unless you are looking right at one of the specialized procedures in the manual that tell you to.

    Thanks all!
Typo from me!. You are right its CG-TC, there was a typo. (45 in T : 4th from top left and 5th from bottom left). (When shorted, the diagnosis began on MFD.)
