We had a Gen 2 from 2005 to early 2012. Excellent car, but it's doesn't drive like the Gen 3. We do a lot of traveling, and the Gen 3 is really a lot better on the highway. If you do go for a Gen 2, you can improve it's road manners by going to a 16 inch wheel and a 205/55 premium tire like a Pirelli Cinturato P7 Plus. That will make the car somewhat more linear going down a highway, while not dropping MPG.

Interior ergonomics are vastly different in both cars. I found the Gen 3 seating a lot more comfortable than the Gen 2. When you decide to go drive the cars, make sure you spend some quality time in them. It's really easy to buy the wrong car by not driving them enough long enough during the test phase. You need to drive the cars in all the types of road conditions you're likely to encounter in day to day use.

As far as MPG goes... our Gen 2 was right close to 50 mpg during it's life with us. We drove it quite sedately when we could get away with it, which was most of the time, since we live in rural Maine where there's little traffic congestion. The Gen 3 easily stays 52-55 mpg in most driving.

Gen 2 is good best than insight slower but reliability is top notch , but gen3 is more stable in hybrid system battery even price. You cant be Shure gen2 can retain resale value. Go for gen3 prii and your car will lookslike a 2015 always.
