If that sound started and your ac is suddenly not cold, that would be a sign of a compressor problem

I replaced my compressor in January. It was $500 if I remember correctly for a new one on eBay. There are also salvage ones for $50 on eBay. I got a new one on eBay because it was warrantied and Toyota dealer felt more confident in installing it.
