I'm not sure that answers my question??? SOC ??? Where did that come from?

I was asking if 'HVB Min V' and 'HVB Max V' were both being compared by the 'Nimh volt Delta'

Please bear with me.. I'm very new to this sort of stuff.

I am trying to verify if my HV Battery in nearing end of life. Somewhere I got the notion that if your HV Battery Blocks 1-14 ever get over 1 V out of balance from the rest, it will throw a code, 'Triangle of Death' and a few other warnings. This Nimh Volt Delta looks as though it may show if this happens. The Needle doesn't help much because it's always moving about but it leaves a amber arrow of the lowest occurrence and the red arrow with the highest. The main focus is on the Round Dial type gauge.. The "Internal Resistance" screen doesn't seem to tell me anything.. or does it?

1st Pic,, I'm just driving normally.

    2nd Pic,, Heavy Braking

3rd Pic,, I floored the accelerator.

    4th Pic,, Internal Resistance.

Your photos do not match what you are saying. They show a current of zero for normal driving (fairly normal), and around 1.5 amps for heavy braking and heavy acceleration. Heavy braking should be around 60-100 amps peak regen and heavy accel should be 120+ amps peak. Heavy braking will show a voltage around 19 and heavy accel should show around 13 volts. I guess it depends on what you consider heavy.

But, going by the numbers you show, I don't see anything you need to worry about currently. A bad module will typically show up on the IR as a higher value. If you see one module starting to diverge higher from the others, that's when you should start worrying. Like if one of the was a 0.029 or 0.031, it would be a good indicator that block has a module that is going to be an issue.

Yes this is true. To make sure from the battery and to know how much the different between the highest model and the lowest model put the car on the N position and then turn on the AC until the battery is full discharged you will hear a sound that mean the battery is low charge then take screen shot and but car in P position to charge .

My mistake. I thought you were incorrectly referencing my discussion of Delta SOC. So my reply was answering a different question than what you asked

Gamma your hv battery looks fine to me.
Practically identical to my 2009 prius (hv battery) with 95k miles (i'm expecting at least twice that many miles).
nimh-delta is the difference in max and min module voltages.
Ericbecky is talking about something entirely different (soc delta). It's not the same a nimh delta..
I've been monitoring nimh-delta for many years. I'm not sure if the math for nimh-delta is correct it could be showing .1 volt/units instead of volts. It's my understanding also that a 1 volt delta will set codes/alarms.
My 2009 has displayed nimh of 1.5 units (peak) many hundreds of times (mostly in summer months) and never set any codes/alarms. nimh-delta is good reference but may not be accurate in unit-volts?
But internal cell resistance IR is a better reference to cell capacity.
As long as your IR's are somewhat equal your true nimh-delta will always be within tolerance and not set any codes.

The strange thing about nimh-delta on my 2009 prius is that it peaks on 90 degree turns in the city.
And I always take turns slowly. Nimh-delta never peaks with peak current from regen braking or hard acceleration (amp-loads).
Nimh only peaks (on my prius) with practically no load and only while turning corners and i drive slow.
Gamma If you could check your nimh-dela for similar or different results I would be interested in your results.

Yes I know, I was only focused on the Yellow and Red arrows on the 'Nimh volt Delta' Sorry for the confusion. When I Shapped the Screen Shot, I was stopped.

Thanks for your reply.. I will check for the peak in the 90* turn for you. I won't be able to screen shot the info but I understand what you are looking for.

That's good news, that my car looks similar to yours. It spent it's life in Houston, TX until 3 years ago when I acquired it with 86K miles. It now has 117K miles and has an easier life here in San Diego temperature wise. My concern is that it is spending more time in the Green than usual (around 7 bars) it will make it to 8 green bars on a 100-150 drop in elevation when coming to a stop. As with before, maybe 6 months ago, I didn't make it into the Green as much and almost never went full (8 Green Bars). So I figured the battery was getting weak and I should consider either a Grid Charger or these new custom cells.

I was unable to duplicate your problem making right or left turns.

    Good advice dolj.

For me, my business phone and email are already all over the web so I don't worry about it any more.

I let Jolly Roger phone company handle all my telemarketing and spam calls.

Nothing much to report. It just works. Battery level seems to be in the green or high blue area a lot more than I remember.

Nothing to report. Worked fine while installed.
Removed unit at 4000 miles and 3 months.
Sold car and bought a replacement 2008 Prius that had only 50,000. That car was a daily driver that went short distance daily so the pack was still fine.
The cylindrical pack is in storage.

How many miles did you get Rob on the orig?

I have been supportive of 2K1's batt from the outset (looks like some of the earlier posts in the thread are gone now). So I restate that if a Prius is going to be the best green car, we need to stretch the longevity of the cars, so this does that.
