Got everything wired up but got stopped dead in my tracks as I stripped one of the bolts holding in the cage for the stock head unit. All of these were on TIGHT! But one of them just didn't want to budge.

Time to get a dremel and continue tomorrow... ugh

the scosche ta2114b is both single and double. i was hoping someone may be able to give a side by side comparison or post high quality pics of the two brands. or simply vouch for one or the other (metra/scosche).

Does anyone know if I can keep my stock Phone Bluetooth controls on the steering wheel, and use the stock mic with an aftermarket Head Unit? I am assuming the actual OEM bluetooth is in the radio and the radio I get will have bluetooth.

Bluetooth controls should work with metra adapter but factory mic as far as I know isn't compatible with aftermarket radios.

Thanks Charly. You mentioned in post 203 that your phone controls on your steering wheel were moving your radio presets instead of answering the phone. Did you ever get that fixed?

Hello, I loved this Forum, I wanted to change my factory stereo, I would have failed if I did not find the information on this forum. Since I found and used so much information, from this forum, I decided to post what I did.

    Pioneer 3500 dab head unit
    Alpine SPR-60 rear doors
Alpine SPR-60C front doors, split component.
JL 6*9 RE690-TXi Rear parcel shelf, wired to amp
    JL 12 inch Sub
    JL 5 channel amp XD700/5

Installing the alpine tweeter in the front doors was easy, just cut the door trim around where the factory mesh was, it bolted in perfect.

The sound is loud at 11 and clear, I am impressed, perhaps too loud. Some people have been telling me to enter it into a competition, not sure about doing that sought of thing though.

Also upgraded the suspension so it would handle alpinefactorystereo.jpg Factorydoor.jpg factorydoor2.jpg factorytweeter.jpg

some photos of the spacers i needed for the front doors. i needed 1" to clear the window when rolled down. i only needed 1/2" to clear the back window.

i test fit them yesterday, i'll be waterproofing them today.

On my vehicle I reset the module, then waited for the light to stop flashing and held down the phone hang up button on the steering wheel and everything worked for me!

Did you figure out how to wire the 2 wired after market tweeter into the 4 wired harness for the OEM tweeter? I'm at the same crossroads and am at a loss.

[Edit] I figured it out, you simply splice the two lighter colored wires together as one Positive, and the two darker colored wires together as the Negative. I forget the exact colors right now. But I ended up upgrading my stock speakers that included tweeters in the middle, so the stock tweeters were redundant and i just disconnected em.

Not to necro a thread 3 years later, but ever since these posts and tips, has there been any changes to the method of replacing the OEM radio? After reading 12 pages, I see that if I were to go with an aftermarket radio, my mic will not work, is there an alternative to the mic?

The mic is important, so if it's too much of a hassle for the aftermarket ones, then I am thinking of going with the 2012-13 Highlander/Corolla radio. Would the Highlander/Corolla radio work for the back up camera that I want to install at a later date?

This will be my first project, hope to learn more so I can DYI this.
